Ms. Cotton,
You are absolutely right, this does need to be visible and transparent
for all citizens in Grafton. However, I think many people are not
seeing the larger picture. Yes we need to update our infrastructure
to address crowding issues but we also need to be concerned with how
we are going to pay for all of this.
As a selectman, I hope you are thinking longer term, where will we get
the funds to pay for the 50 new teachers? The necessary support
staff? All the textbooks and equipment? What about lighting and
heating the building? Its going to cost us a lot more than what it
seems people are focused on which is a new building.
We spent 2 hours waffling last night on budget items that many
officials and committee members (including school committee) have
spent months pouring over to come up with a balanced budget. We are
getting a lot for $38 million, what do you think the budget will be
when and if we get a new school building?
The saddest part of last nights meeting was the probably 800 people
who ran out the building as soon as article 20 was decided and didnt
want to stay engaged in the entire process. You have been able to
reach out to people, I would encourage you to use your voice to have
people make informed decisions on all matters on the town warrant and
not just personal agendas.
