Please don't publicize yet; I'm working on a blog post which is a complete technical overview of how to accomplish the control.

so attaching a spray can to this would be pretty trivial then, eh? ;) oh what fun to see a roomba rolling down the sidewalk, expressing how it feels to clean up after a dirty city.

I'll be looking forward to that. :) This got me thinking on stuff to do with a roomba. :P I would like to see how the arduino connects between processing and the roomba.

Now, like Greg mentioned, take for a walk in the park and attach a spray paint can to it. ;) Since the roomba is black, it would sneak in the night quite well in a non-lighted place.

Something that's be awesome too would be to take an army of roombas and get them to do something together. Taking the graffiti example again, you could make a tri-colored graffiti with three roombas. Sure, you could use one, but it'll take forever (considering that video was sped up x4.)

Nice work! :D

I remember that project. Its the no humans required part that could be fun. Almost inconspicuous even...

There have been many graffiti robots -- IMHO the most significant of which is the Institute for Applied Autonomy’s GraffitiWriter & Streetwriter (1998-2004): http://www.appliedautonomy.com/gw.html. This was later ripped off by an IAA splinter member, who sold the technology to Nike for the Chalkbot (2009): http://www.deeplocal.com/projects/nike-chalkbot

Yes attaching a spray can is trivial, though I don't have time to design the activation mechanism at the moment.

Evan also suggested implementing a getaway timer, so that one can set the device, and leave, getting to a comfortable distance.
