I was wondering if anyone has tried converting to GML from another
vector format? like svg?

I don't think anyone has yet -- this would be a huge addition!

Converting from a vector format like SVG is trivial if the SVG is defined as a polyline (or set of polylines). Converting a filled vector shape into a GML polyline, however, is a different problem altogether and is much more difficult.

I'd be happy to make a converter from SVG to GML. It will then be easy to design GML tags in a tool like Illustrator. But it will require that the SVG be a polyline (or set of polylines). It won't work with filled shapes; that's a much more complex (and open-ended) research problem.

Golan, I think this would be awesome. It also sounds like it might be even easier to go the other direction, GML -> SVG? This isn't my area of expertise but I know of a few CNC machines that do great with SVG but definitely won't be speaking GML any time soon. Or is EPS etc even more common?

If we have a converter I can add a native .svg response to 000000book as well! E.g. http://000book.com/data/147.svg

That would be so super awrsome, I am a stencil artist and the main
reason i am ask asking is so I can use your GMLstenciler to check for
holes and bridging, it would be a great tool to have and take a
process that can take a good day or 2 on a big multi layered stencil
and cut it into 5 min. If you can do it, I'll add your tag to a
commisioned wall I am doing at the moment.
