Liebe SichtbarmacherInnen,

sehr kurzfristig hat sich die Möglichkeit ergeben mit Dan Gettinger, Center for the Study of the Drone (Bard College, New York) ein kleines gemeinsames Kolloquium zum Thema „Drohnen & Remote Warfare“ zu machen.

Der Drohnenkrieg ist ein Sichtbarmachungsproblem par excellence, denn es werden nicht nur Handlungsentscheidungen auf der Basis von Bildern getroffen, sondern die gesamte militärische Handlungskette wird in (nahezu) Echtzeit visuell reorganisiert.

Wir würden uns freuen, wenn die eine oder der andere daran teilnehmen möchte und so kurzfristig noch Zeit hat.

Die Veranstaltung findet bereits statt am kommenden Montag, 1.6. von 10–12.30 im Seminarraum (2.04) des Exzellenzclusters Bild Wissen Gestaltung.

Bitte gebt mir doch kurz bescheid, wenn Ihr teilnehmen möchtet.

Drone Research Colloquium

10–11 am  Presentation by Daniel Gettinger followed by discussion  

Abstract: Since 2004, the United States has embarked on a campaign that targets the leaders of al-Qaeda and its allies in Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia using drones, or, unmanned aerial vehicles. The lecture will discuss the contours of the targeted killing program and recent investigations into drone strikes. How are targets acquired? What do investigations by human rights researchers and journalists reveal about the civilian casualties of drone strikes? What are the technologies that enable pilots to remotely control drones over the Middle East from the United States?   

Daniel Gettinger is the founder and co-director of the Center for the Study of the Drone (www.dronecenter.bard.edu) at Bard College, New York.
