Hello Raza,

I hope you are all doing well. Please see below (and attachment) for an event coming up next Monday and Tuesday. The Creating Connections Consortium (C3) and LADO (liberal arts diversity officers) group will be visiting Berkeley next Monday and Tuesday. This visit is extremely valuable for anyone interested in applying to jobs in liberal arts colleges. I've been part of the program since last year and l have learned that there are amazing job opportunities at these institutions. You can still register at https://forms.gle/F8VRNS9qvdTZosce6 or by sending the UCB coordinator, Alberto Ledesma, a message at aled...@berkeley.edu.  The schedule of events is listed in the flyer.

I hope some of you can make it.

Saludos y hasta pronto!

PLEASE FORWARD AND EXCUSE DUPLICATIONS

Dear Berkeley Graduate Students,

I am sending you this message to let you know that annual our Mellon-sponsored C3/LADO Faculty Recruitment Visit is fast approaching. This event may be very important to you as you are about to enter the job market this year or in the next two years, particularly if you are interested in teaching at a liberal arts college and might be able to contribute to the enhancement of  faculty diversity there.

As you might already know, the Creating Connections Consortium is a project, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which has been designed to broaden the hiring of students from non-traditional educational backgrounds or groups underrepresented in higher education into liberal arts colleges. In partnership with 4 liberal arts colleges, University of Michigan, University of Chicago, and Columbia University, the comprehensive C3 project supports undergraduate research, graduate student scholarly presentations, graduate student visits to liberal arts college campuses and this C3 campus visit to Berkeley.

As a part of the C3 Project, Berkeley is hosting a two-day visit on April 15 and 16, 2019 by faculty from various liberal arts colleges. The Liberal Arts Diversity Officers Association (LADO), a consortium of liberal arts college professionals promoting best practices and innovative strategies in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education is co-sponsoring this visit. Besides joining you for lunch, our LADO visitors will present a panel focusing on “Academic Life and Building a Social and Intellectual Community at Liberal Arts Colleges.” They will also convene with selected graduate students, faculty, staff, and administrators to inform them about teaching positions coming up at their universities and what it would take to excel as an applicant for those jobs. More importantly, our visitors will offer focused and individualized feedback on your academic dossier, your curriculum vitae and the general application letter you might draft to apply for liberal arts college jobs.

While this event is primarily geared for underrepresented graduate students, students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, students of color, and disabled students, all graduate students who can contribute towards the diversification of the professoriate and are entering the job market in the next two years are welcomed to register on a first-come, first-served basis.

Here is the registration link: https://forms.gle/F8VRNS9qvdTZosce6

Attached, you will find a copy of the flyer we have prepared for this critical visit. You should know that over the past year, students from Berkeley have attended a research summit, visited individual LADO campuses, and been hired as faculty in the larger LADO network. This is a meaningful opportunity in advancing your career after graduate school.

It would also be very helpful if you could help us spread the word by letting your colleagues know about this event so that they can also register by the extended  deadline of April 8, 2019.

We look forward to seeing you at this event. Please let your friends know to apply early as we have limited capacity for sign-ups.

Thank you,
Alberto Ledesma, PhD
