1. Events Update
1. Dia de los Muertos
-November 1 8pm-12 (we should arrive at 7)
-we pay $100 or split the profits if it is over
-we must staff the event
-Mar will add on facebook event information on the altar and acknowledgement of dia de los muertos traditions.
-Alex paints faces
-Mar will bring altar materials
Set up at 7 pm: Alex, Carlos, Michael, Mar, Rene
Working Door:
8-9pm: Mar and Rene
9-11pm: Michael and Carlos
Security: Carlos
Cleaning: Everyone
Music: Alex, (Carlos contact is plan B)
Outreach:
Spanish Dept, School of Ed, All of Alex’s People, School of Social Welfare, School of Public Health, Multicultural Health Org, Grad Student Union, Latin American Studies Folks
2. Undergrad Workshop
-Workshops for undergrads applying to grad school (workshop personal statements, provide support)
-Friday November 8, 11am-1pm. Stephen’s Hall
-Part one of the workshop series with panel and Alex’s handouts.
-Alex and Jennifer are leads
Part two November 15, 11am-1pm
3. Navigating the Institution Carne Asada.
Saturday November 16.
Location: Alex’s House.
Time: 2pm-5pm.
Michael and Alex take lead.
Outreach=word of mouth.
2. Mentorship Program Update
We decide how many mentees we take on and meet with once a month
3 goals: build relationship, be a bridge and connect mentees with networks, create support network among the mentors
-Brainstorm cool name
-Warm up program this semester, possible workshops for mentors on goals and pedagogy
Nap. Letter
-Mar has a working draft.
-Everyone should take a look at it.
-begin to think how and where we will disseminate the letter
-be ready to be accountable to the letter
At November 11 meeting we can work on the letter and strategize
3. Announcements
Jennifer is speaking this Wednesday at Wurster hall at 630pm.
GSI union is considering strike. Vote at Sather gate Nov 4-6.
