Hi everyone,

We hope you’ve had a good weekend. We’re writing with a quick update on the general meeting we had this past Wednesday with Yairamaren from the POC Caucus.

Through our conversation, we realized that the POC Caucus and GSRaza have a lot of common goals and objectives for ways to better support Latinx graduate students. To this end, starting next year, we will start collaboration efforts early and create a committee that will follow-through on items that were addressed with the Chancellor during our Fireside Chat this year. The committee will also prepare for the annual Fireside Chat meeting with the Chancellor in 2019. Through this effort, we also hope to bring in departmental groups for students of color who can also contribute to the conversation.

In the meantime, we will keep you updated on POC Caucus events and updates. Yairamaren mentioned that there are working groups in the union that meet to discuss different issues like health care, wages, housing, etc., which don’t require mandatory commitments. If you are interested in a particular issue, you can simply join conference calls regarding that issue and have a conversation with other union members on concerns and possible ways to address it. If you are interested in knowing more about the working groups, please e-mail Yairamaren, cc’ed here.

The next POC Caucus meeting is Monday, May 23rd at noon in Eshleman Hall. There will be food, and everyone is welcome!

Best,

Dani, Chrissy, and Isabel
