German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in order to promote research gives scholarships to Indian students pursuing Bachelor degree/dual degree/integrated programmes in subjects like Engineering, Mathematics, Natural Sciences etc. from selected Indian universities to undertake a 2-3 months internship at institutions of higher education and research institutes in Germany with German doctoral students, scientists or professors as part of on-going research projects.

Now the thing which makes DAAD WISE (Working Internships in Science and Engineering) different is that it is basically a scholarship which helps students to intern in Germany like the Charpak Scholarship in case of France. To be eligible for this scholarship, you first need to contact a professor and get an approval from him and then you can apply for this scholarship.

So you first need to contact a professor at any German institution with whom you can intern and then apply for this scholarship. And for this, you need to search for the German colleges you need to apply (that have departments of your field of interest). The best way to do this is to (obviously) Google the top 50 schools and select 20 out of them. Now go to the (interested) department faculty page to get the mail-ids of professors whom you wanted to apply. Remember always choose those professors who have similar field of interest in which you have done some thing strong or concrete. They people (profs) give more attention to your field of interest and the work you have done in it, instead of your CGPA/GPA/percentage/grades.

Meet these DAAD Young Ambassadors for 2013-14 who can give you an idea that which universities can allow to intern:
