Sexism in Higher Education

There have been great strides within the United States to address and
eradicate sexism through legislation, activism, campaigns, etc.
However, sexism is still an issue that is present within the society
and culture of the United States, and this holds true in academia as
well. The purpose of this event will be to hear from panelists on the
experiences they have had with sexism and homophobia. This forum will
provide the opportunity to foster a dialogue about the presence of
sexism in higher education and possible ideas for how to combat sexism
within university communities.

Confirmed panelists include:
Jacquie Antonson, Graduate student at the School for Conflict Analysis
and Resolution (S-CAR), and the co-director of f-r-e-e (friendship-
respect-education-engagement), an NGO currently working on community
building with youth populations in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Alex Gant, George Mason alumnus and the Conference and Operations
Manager for OUT for Work, a nonprofit in D.C that helps LGBTQ college
students prepare for the transition from academia to the workplace.

Marisa Allison, PhD student in the Sociology Department. Marisa's
research focuses on the feminization of higher education, including
the growth of women in the student body.
