As a long-time yoga instructor, I've tried many different brands of yoga mats and blocks, and I always come back to Manduka. We all know the importance of providing the best first-class experience for our clients and Manduka mat rentals play a big part in elevating that experience. We love Manduka mats because we believe there is a mat that meets all the needs of our varying yogis. Manduka products are high quality and last for years. We started carrying Manduka in our yoga boutique when we first opened our doors, and our clients are always excited to see all the new gear arrive.

Pete was fortunate enough to live and work in the USA for a couple of years - and whilst he was there, I (Erin) had the opportunity to visit him. During this time we visited a number of absolutely stunning studios in NYC and Washington D.C. At home meanwhile, there was a distinct absence of studios in our local area - in fact, we were having to drive for miles and miles in order to find a dedicated space. Often, the only yoga on offer was conducted in cold, uninspiring village halls or glaring and unsightly gyms. I became thoroughly fed up with not having a pleasant space in which to practice and longed for the warmth, serenity and immersion I had experienced in the States. We were convinced that more people would come to appreciate the benefits of yoga and movement, if they had a lovely place in which to do it! It was this combination of demand and desire that ignited the idea of opening our own studio. Pete wanted to invest in a business and I, having worked in the legal industry, wanted to change my path and dedicate my professional life to something that I felt passionate about. So, together, we embarked on this amazing (and at times, scary) adventure.
Pete had a clear idea of what he wanted from the start and took the lead on the design and construction. He remained true to his original ideas and stayed consistent with his intention to create a high-end facility, bringing a taste of the city to our little old Somerset town. The finishing touch in our studio was an eye-catching piece of wall art created by the young talented Cornish artist Joe Greenaway (@joegreenawayart). Our design features women in overlapping yoga postures with the chakras in Sanskrit text around the piece. It encapsulates femininity and the essence of our motto 'Let Yourself Flow'.
A good night's sleep! A clear and calm mind, and perhaps a feeling of achievement. We want them to feel that the time they have taken out of their busy lives for self-care, has been worthwhile. We want to foster a sense of gratitude for the amazing things our bodies can do, especially if we can learn to connect breath to body and master mindful movement.
We aspire to become a hub not just for inspirational yoga and pioneering new yoga-fitness fusion, but also for wellness in general. We plan on offering specialist classes for pregnant women, athletes and also for teens, utilising Erin's psychology background and experience to pass on the transformative potential of yoga, movement and exercise on mental health amongst the Gen-Z population. We hope to establish working relationships with local providers - healers and wellness specialists, dancers and artists, therapists and teachers of all disciplines - those who share our vision of empowering others by providing a supportive environment in which to prioritise overall well-being.
There's a lot in the pipeline, owing to the flexibility of our studio space and our goal to be offer diverse and fun experiences within an over-arching theme of health and well-being - Egyptian Dance workshops (April, May June), Spring Equinox Yoga and Journalling (March) , Ice Baths and Wim Hof breathing (when it's warm!) to name a few.

Prior to owning the Manduka Black Mat PRO, I had heard of the mat through other bloggers and from seeing other yogis practice using this mat at the studio. I knew that if I were going to upgrade soon it would be this mat.
I had heard rave reviews about this mat, and even heard the Manduka Black Mat PRO described as the best yoga mat out there, even with a lifetime guarantee to back it up. This particular mat is a best-seller, although Manduka also produces thinner mats, travel mats and various yoga accessories.
Over the years it does appear that Manduka has slightly changed the name of this mat, they now call it the Manduka PRO Yoga Mat. In addition you can now purchase this mat in multiple colors! Back in 2012 it was only available in black. You can select from:
Manduka does advise against submerging this mat in water as it can break down the mat and ruin the lifetime guarantee. I wrote a full post about how to clean your yoga mat and the importance of cleaning your mat.
I mentioned the size of this mat being larger than normal, well along with that this mat is heavy at 7.5 pounds for the standard size. This is not a good mat if you are biking to yoga class or walking a long distance.
Initially I had to adjust to how I store my yoga mat. For this mat you need to roll it up one way and then secure it with a strap. In the past I had thin yoga mats and would fold them in half, then roll them up so that I always had a top side to practice on and a bottom side facing the ground.
As with any yoga mat, a popular question is how well does the mat hold up if you sweat a lot? I primarily practice heated vinyasa yoga. For me the mat does fine for these classes. I like using a small hand towel for extra grip and to wipe the mat.
When I took Bikram yoga I needed something a little stronger so I used a towel to cover the entire mat. This could also be helpful if you sweat more during regular classes. If you buy a towel to cover the mat just be sure it fits your Manduka Black Mat PRO because of the larger size of this mat. Some yoga mat towel options include:
The initial investment, I admit, seems high but if you think about how often you practice, over time the cost is easily broken down. Additionally, I do not think a price can be put on the additional support this mat provides your joints and body.
I have a cheap-o mat from Marshalls, but I actually looked at Manduka when I was in the market for a Mat Towel for hot classes. Ended up with a yogi-toes because Inner Bliss sells them and I am an instant gratification person. However, I like that Manduka promotes green products. Which is why they give you that super awesome lifetime guarantee and reduces mats in the landfills and over all consumption. I like that the eKO mat is actually made of natural rubber with toxins removed. I would buy this mat anyway!
I like the Jo-Sha Wipes. I have a few mats that I use for Yoga and strength training/stretching at home. They are not as clean as I would like for something that I sweat all over and can probably use a cleaning.

from manduka: the eKO lite mat provides a naturally grippy surface that catches if you start to slip. eco-friendly and biodegradable, this non-Amazon harvested tree rubber mat firmly supports both your practice and our planet!
I will say that the leatherlike coating wasn't the most gentle on my feet and toes. When my postures were less than perfect, especially during transitions, I'd often feel my big toe nail scrape along the surface, which was a little painful, yet it did remind me to realign my positioning, whatever that's worth.
Not only that, but the mat itself stayed put, too. I'm used to having my mat slide a bit against the studio floor during at least a few Downward Facing Dogs and Vinyasa flows. But the extremely sticky bottom of the Manduka GRP was unfazed. Once I laid the mat down, it didn't move for the entire class, which is pretty remarkable, especially considering the pools of sweat I left behind.
