Dear everyone.

This is the GP's proposed stand on RH Bill.

Deadline for comments, reactions, opinions shall be before 12 noon tomorrow, 28 November 2012.

Statement:

“The RH bill is a very contentious issue. The use of pro-RH or anti-RH labels is not helpful in addressing the problems that our Filipina women and mothers are facing today. The revised version of the RH bill which contains relatively more acceptable provisions is a good progress in our struggle to address the high prevalence of maternal deaths in the country. I am with our people who continue to fight for both the rights of Filipina women, and that of the unborn.”

Dear Execom.

The statement for the proposed stand on the RH Bill sounds all right.

Suggested edits:

- The revised version of the RH bill which contains relatively more acceptable provisions shows good progress in our struggle...
OR
- The revised version of the RH bill which contains relatively more acceptable provisions is a good indicator of progress in our struggle...

I stand with our people who continue to fight for both the rights of Filipina women, and that of the unborn child.

Ending with "the unborn" sounds more final, inclusive and impartial. But on an issue that clearly divides our society, the mention of the "child" makes it clear where in the issue the candidate will not budge: women and children. It also humanizes the issue.

Best regards,
Mariel (c/o Mike)

Hi, Prof. Serge.

The press release sounds good.

Suggested edits:
  • Paragraph 2: change single quote to double quote mark at the end of the quotation
According to Grace Poe, “we have to get the growth out of the headlines and bring it to the table of every poor family. They should be part of this growth, not just spectators."
  • Paragraph 4: change 2001 to 2004
She also wants reforms in the electoral system to prevent a repeat of the massive cheating in 2004 when her father ran for the Presidency.
  • Paragraph 5: change October to September; add acronym for MTRCB; unsure if "Chair" is a widely used term, so I left it as "Chairman"
Grace Poe was the Chairman of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) before she resigned last September to run for the Senate.

Best regards,
Mariel (c/o Mike)

Hi, Lotis.

The statement sounds good.

Suggested edits:
  • 1st sentence: Add a comma after Today and remove the extra space before "Filipinos" and the extra space before "of"
Today, (insert comma here) as we commemorate...all (remove extra space) Filipinos here and abroad in remembering and celebrating the life of a man who once dreamt (remove extra space) of and died...
  • Last sentence: Please remove the extra "the" after "strengthening" and replace "already have" with "enjoy"
...and strengthening the the democratic gains that we enjoy today.

Best regards,
Mariel (c/o Mike)

Hello all!

I think it's best to use "country" instead of Philippines... and died for a free country.

Also, celebrating the life of a man who once dreamt "of" (remove) and died for a free country (instead of Philippines).

for your approval.  Thank you - Michelle

Hi, Everyone.

I like Atty Mhai's idea of changing Philippines to "country." Or the word "nation" instead of "Philippines" would work nicely, as well, although I would suggest retaining the "of" in the phrase "dreamt of and died for."

Additional suggested edits:
  • 1st sentence: Add a comma after Today, remove the extra space before "Filipinos" and the extra space before "of" then change "Philippines" to "nation"
Today, (insert comma here) as we commemorate...all (remove extra space) Filipinos here and abroad in remembering and celebrating the life of a man who once dreamt (remove extra space) of and died for a free nation.

  • 2nd sentence: replace "in" with the word "with" so the phrase becomes "struggles with"
Let his example be our guide in our modern day struggles with eradicating the shackles of poverty...

  • 2nd sentence: Please remove the extra "the" after "strengthening" and replace the phrase "already have" with the word "enjoy"

  • ...and strengthening the the democratic gains that we enjoy today.

Best regards,
Mariel (c/o Mike)
