What it looks like to push back

Jonathan —

Yesterday JD Vance and Stephen Miller tried to have a nice quiet photo op at Union Station, giving out hamburgers to National Guard members who have arrived here from other states.

DC was having none of it.

JD Vance, if you oppress DC communities you're not welcome in DC communities. Yesterday DC neighbors made sure JD heard it loud and clear that we don't want federal occupation, we want a #FreeDC.

Free DC's press conference on Monday, demanding federal forces out now.

Yesterday's outcry at Union Station is only one of the ways DC communities are coming together to push back.

At a press conference on Monday we made it clear DC wants federal forces out immediately. In Columbia Heights on Tuesday, neighbors chanted at ICE agents until they went home. Every night at 8 PM, people are banging pots and pans and ringing church bells all over the city — a long and storied resistance practice against fascism. And community members are working to keep each other safe, show up in solidarity, and use our voices — the strategies people have used throughout history to push back against oppression.

We know there's a lot happening right now. Things are moving fast and information is changing often. We want to make sure you have clear and consistent guidance in this moment. To help with that we've published a new page with everything you need to know during this unusual time:

That page has information about calls to action, resources, and upcoming events during this escalated period. We'll be updating that page regularly, so check back often for new information and updates.

Keep pushing back and keeping each other safe, DC. We know our communities are worth protecting, and we also know it won't happen unless we demand it. Keep going, we love you.
