Dear Grassroots Group Leaders and Activists,

I hope everyone is taking time to rest after the Redistricting Amendment vote last week. Thank you for all of your work to get out the vote! We will be discussing lessons learned during our coalition meeting on May 17th.

We are expecting a variety of pushback from Republicans on the Redistricting Amendment and the best thing to do is say "Virginia voters have spoken". Don't get wrapped up in debates about each challenge. Focus instead on getting voters ready for the primaries and understanding the new districts.

Last week, the General Assembly reviewed legislation that passed the House and Senate, went to the Governor's desk, and the Governor amended. Legislators could choose to accept the recommended changes, reject the changes, or pass the legislation by for the day. If they reject the changes or pass the legislation by for the day, the bill goes back to the Governor in its original version.

During the special session, the General Assembly "passed by" quite a few of the bills because they felt the Governor's amendments weaken the bills. We are really glad that the General Assembly is sticking up for the original legislation. The Governor now has 30 days to sign or veto each bill. Below are calls to action asking the Governor to sign into law the bills in their original format. Please take action today!

We were expecting a budget session last week, but there is still significant disagreement between the Senate and House budgets. We expect there will be another special session in May to vote on the budget. The budget needs to be passed by June 30th. We are also sharing a call to action about the budget - see below.

In Case You Missed It
Have a great week!
