Tuesday January 27, 5:30–6:30pm EST, Public Health and Nuclear Weapons
From: Union of Concerned Scientists
The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is conducting a Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement (PEIS) on the production of nuclear bomb cores, called plutonium pits. The United States has not produced plutonium pits on a large scale since 1989, raising concerns about the impact of this production on the environment and human health.
Historically, the US government has not properly considered the higher impact of radiation on women and children. We must make sure the NNSA includes these demographics in their assessment and that all people are properly represented.
