We've been doing this almost every week since March, and have learned that many drivers are genuinely grateful to see us; and participants have told us that it's boosted their morale. It sometimes goes after 6:15 if people want to stay. Our messaging is strictly PRO DEMOCRACY and specifically not anti-Trump. We take this approach to demonstrate a non-threatening style of protest that we hope will appeal to a wide array of observers--esp. those who may be unfamiliar with, or uncomfortable with, protests.

Boycotts, Strikes, and Disruptions
Free DC asks us to boycott Amazon
https://freedcproject.org/amazon
August Boycott of Conservative restaurants, plus Amazon, Monsanto, Home Depot, Georgia Pacific…
From: Viva la Resistance
We are adding a number of chain restaurants to the boycott list in August. Why? Many restaurant chains support conservative rather than liberal values and politics. Most are against raising the minimum wage and giving benefits, because their business model depends on low cost labor. Some have historically been this way; others have changed more recently, often due to ownership changes. For example, Atlanta-based Roark Capital, a conservative donor, has bought Dunkin, Baskin Robbins, and Subway in recent years. For details, click here:

Every day, Restaurant workers call for boycott of six DC restaurants amid union fight
From: Metro DD DSA
The restaurants are: Osteria Mozza, The Occidental, Le Diplomate, Rasika, Modena, and Bombay Club
For months, Metro DC DSA has stood side by side with allies at UNITE HERE 25 who have been tirelessly organizing workplaces owned by the STARR and Knightsbridge restaurant groups. Hundreds of DC restaurant workers have endured a torrent of relentless union busting at some of the most lucrative restaurants by greedy bosses. Yesterday, workers announced a call for DC customers to boycott these restaurants, asking the public not to eat, meet, or drink at these locations. The boycott is set to apply to STARR's Osteria Mozza, The Occidental & Le Diplomate, and Knightsbridge's Rasika, Modena & Bombay Club. This boycott is supported by dozens of national progressive lawmakers. https://www.axios.com/2025/06/05/scoop-democrats-vow-to-boycott-popular-dc-restaurants https://www.eatfairdc.org/

Wednesday August 20, 6-7:30pm EDT, ICE Out of Alexandria Teach-In
From: https://www.instagram.com/iceoutofalexandria/
Most Alexandrians respect law enforcement, but not ICE. ICE does not respect due process. ICE deserves neither cooperation nor respect. To live up to our own standards, Alexandria must refuse to surrender people to ICE without being forced to do so by a judge. If Sheriff Casey continues to cooperate with ICE, when his hand is not forced by a judicial warrant, he risks losing the respect of his community.

Thursday August 21, 06:30-8pm EDT, Legal Plunder Socialist Night School

Alongside the rise of mass incarceration, a second profound and equally disturbing development has transpired. In their new book, Legal Plunder: The Predatory Dimensions of Criminal Justice, Joshua Page and Joe Soss analyze this development’s origins, operations, consequences, and the political struggles that it has created.

Join us for our monthly potluck Shabbat dinner in the park on Friday, August 15th starting at 7pm. We’ll spend time together marking Shabbat, getting to know each other, and building community during these challenging times.
We'll also be honoring the life and legacy of Awdah Hathaleen, a Palestinian activist from Umm Al-Kheir who was murdered by an Israeli settler in late July. Awdah was a beloved friend to many members of our IfNotNow community.
Please bring a vegetarian dish to share and a blanket to sit on, if you can.
