Hi All,
We have three upcoming dates for you.
May 1 - May Day general strike
May 6 - GrA Community Voices virtual meeting
May 7 - GrA monthly action meeting (in person)
May 1, see https://maydaystrong.org/ . The main thing is the general
strike: please take the day off work and don't shop or eat out. There
are some "visibility" events and what might be called a resistance fair
at the Washington Monument, with lots of groups (such as Free DC)
setting up tables or booths for outreach. That's noon-2pm.
We will be meeting on the platform of the Potomac Yard Metro station to
go to the DC event together, gathering 1130am, leaving 11:40am. Come out
and join us!
May 6, 7pm, Community Voices virtual team meeting. This is the team that
gathers and shares information on protests, trainings, and other fun
stuff. Write to us to join.
May 7, 7pm:GrA monthly action meeting
When: Thursday, Mary 7, 7-9pm
Where: 3801 Mt Vernon Ave (TWU building), 22305
This will be a joint meeting of project leaders and team members working
on Alexandria Human rights, Pro-democracy action, Education, our
Environment, Housing Equity, and Transportation Equity.
We will be updating each other on immediate concerns, such as local
school policies, the housing master plan update, previously
under-represented human rights concerns (Palestine and more), and ICE in
Alexandria. We will discuss ongoing projects: tenant protections,
climate/environment, transportation, human rights, and much more.
This month will be structured similarly to recent meetings, where the
first half will be check-ins, updates and calls to action from each
team, and general touching base and welcoming of any new team members.
For the second half of the meeting, we'll be conducting an interactive
workshop on how we do things in Grassroots Alexandria (specific topic to
be announced) Bring your ideas, your energy, and we'll see you there!
