Events This Week

Monday June 8, 4pm EDT, Rally to Save NOAA

From: Chesapeake Climate Action Network

With proposed budgets gutting crucial National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) programs and a White House that wants to break up this life-saving agency, we need to be loud in our support. NOAA’s weather detection and climate research departments save lives – let’s not let Congress forget it!

Where: Constitution Gardens, East End Plaza, between 17th Street and Constitution Avenue on the National Mall, Washington, DC

Monday June 8, 15, 22, 29, 5pm EDT, MORAL MONDAY DC - Black Lives Matter Square

From: Repairers of the Breach

Moral Monday — Moral Witness in the Public Square: The assault on voting rights and democracy at home, and the daily war on the poor demand our prophetic witness. Some things are not about left and right, conservative versus liberal — they are about right and wrong. They are about whether we will preach and speak the truth, and whether we believe in the collective power of nonviolence to end every form of violence.

Beginning on June 8, Repairers of the Breach and our partners will gather in the shadow of power to declare a different word: Stop the war. Protect voting rights. Stop the attack on the poor. We invite you to stand with us.

Where: 16th St NW, Black Lives Matter Plaza, Washington, DC

June 11,14, noon-5pm EDT, Volunteer at the Museum of Unnatural Disasters

From: Climate Action Campaign

The Museum of Unnatural Disasters is a multi-day, pop-up exhibit that traces how climate change is causing weather to feel more and more unnatural, not only through catastrophic events, but through everyday moments slowly made unfamiliar.

Through photographs, artifacts, interactive exhibits and more, the museum allows visitors to step into the lives of survivors of extreme weather, confront the impact climate change is having right here, right now, and learn how they can use their voices for real, durable change.

We're looking for volunteers who can help pass out flyers or greet people as they visit museum. On their way out all guests are invited to sign a petition and post on social media.

Training and support will be provided by the Climate Action Campaign team, and we’ll follow up to confirm your shift. We’ll have a free climate t-shirt that is yours to keep. Join our volunteers and sign up!

Saturday June 13, 11am-12pm EDT, Love as Action: Farragut Square DC

From: AFSC Quaker Engagement

Quaker public witness has stood in opposition to cruel and authoritarian actions in our country before. It is time for us to show this love in action again.

Please join the American Friends Service Committee and DMV area Meetings to bear witness and show resistance to the authoritarian actions in our country and witness for peace.

We will gather for one hour of silent public worship.

Our hope is that our presence will give hope to all who see us – to show that we can choose resistance - and remind everyone of our moral obligations to one another.

Where: Farragut Square, 912 17th St NW, Washington, DC 20006
