Hi,

I have been playing around with GQueues for an hour or two now and first off I should say: it's fantastic, well done! I have recently begun using Google Calendar and have been frustrated to find that there are very few options for peole wanting simply to generate a checkbox-style task list from a calendar, and my initial impression is that GQ does it superbly.

I do have a couple of queries though. Firstly, when moving a task in google calendar, the time and date update automatically. So far, so good. But if that means that the order of tasks to be completed changes, this does not update automatically and tasks are then out of chronological order. This can be reordered by date on the website, which then updates the Android app. As I am trying to use this service with the app, is there any way to reorder the task list automatically i.e. to "force" the list to always be in chronological order?

Secondly, I have noticed that if I move a recurring event, when I complete that event (which creates the next one), the newly created event is scheduled to be at the same time as the moved one, rather than the original time. Is there anyway to maintain the original time for the subsequent events?

Many thanks in advance,
John

Hi John -

I'm glad you're finding GQueues useful!

1. Yes, all tasks in queues in My Queues are manually ordered.  This means whatever custom order you set will be preserved, even if dates change.  Choosing "Reorder by date" is a one time reordering of the tasks that makes it easier than manually reordering the tasks yourself by date.

However, Smart Queues are filters on tasks that appear in My Queues.  You can set a custom sort order for Smart Queues and whatever tasks that match the filter will appear in the Smart Queue in the order specified.

So you could view the "All Tasks" Smart Queue and have it sorted by date to always see tasks in date order.  Or you can create your own custom Smart Queue for a specific queue and have it sorted by date.

2. Right now changing the date/time of a repeating tasks changes it for all tasks moving forward.  We'll consider adding a way to make "one-off" changes to repeating tasks while preserving the original settings.

I hope this helps!

Hi Cameron,

That's fantastic - works like a dream! Thank you!

Re. the changing times of recurring tasks: while this is a bit awkward, ultimately I'll just have to remember to change things around as appropriate. I have put together another "template" calendar in Google, so if I can't remember where something "should" be, I can just flick that on to check. IMO, it would definitely be a good idea to have the default be a one-off change as this is the standard behaviour for recurring events in Google (and outlook too, I believe; I haven't used other calendars, so can't comment on those.)

Another quick suggestion: I love the fact that completing tasks and checking them off on my phone adds a little tick mark to my google calendar events - this could possibly be enhanced with an option to change the event colour in the calendar. Before I found GQueues, I had been manually changing event colours to green to indicate that they had been completed - very time-consuming! Of course, if GQueues can already do this and I just haven't come across it yet, please do let me know!

John
