FYI, I've just created some recipes on IFTTT.com (If This Then That) which will automagically add tasks to your GQueues inbox when certain events happen.

This uses your personal GQueues inbox address, which looks like "xxx_xxx"@gqueues.appspotmail.com and you can use the GQueues shortcodes to direct the newly created tasks to a specific queue, tag, deadline, etc.

For example:
IF "I star an email in my inbox" THEN "create a GQueues task due today"
IF "There is a job opening at a company I follow on LinkedIn" THEN "create a GQueues task with a #jobsearch tag"
IF "I add to my 'watch later' list on YouTube" THEN "create a GQueues task in my [boredom] queue"
IF "A new game is added to the Steam RSS" THEN "create a GQueues task in my [wishlist] queue"

If you make your own GQueues recipes on IFTTT, please consider sharing them publicly with a #GQueues tag!

This is awesome. I've been wanting to use IFTTT.com, and this would be a great way to try it out! Thanks.

Hi Jen -

I just checked out your recipes - these are AWESOME!

Thanks for sharing them with everyone.  I'll have to write up a blog post about this with links to your recipes!

Glad you like the IFTTT recipes!

I'm finding that some of them would really benefit from some sort of syntax escape symbol. For example, if the title of the YouTube clip in my "Watch Later" IFTTT recipe contains a twitter hashtag, it creates an unwanted new GQueues tag for me. Similarly, I sometimes forward emails to GQueues that have [mailinglistname] in the subject line, which creates an unwanted "mailinglistname" queue instead of putting the task in my inbox (where I can find it!). If there was some way to escape a certain portion of (imported) text, that should solve the problem, right?

Hope this makes sense? Anything that can be done?

Thanks much!

Sorry, Jen, right now there is no way to selectively disable the quick add parsing.

You can turn it ALL off by putting a tilde (~) at the beginning of the email subject line

This will cause all parsing to be disabled.  So all new tasks will go to your inbox with no tags added, but at least unwanted tags and queues won't be created by extraneous syntax that may be part of your YouTube clip titles, etc...

Hi Jen -

I just wanted to let you know of a new feature I've added where you can specify the queue where a task should go as part of your inbox email address.

Example sending an email to:

would put the task in my "Weekend Projects" queue.

Full details here:

This may be helpful with your IFTTT recipes - so you can specify the queue destination in the email address, and then use the tilde to escape the email subject line so quick add parsing doesn't create any unwanted tags / queues.

Hey Cameron,

I love this feature but I ran into a snag.  I have several Queues whose names are prepended with the @ symbol.  I don't remember if that's an artifact from having read the GTD book or a default from when I first started using this product.

In any event, I can't seem to figure out how to email to one of these queues.  I'm sure you can see the inherent problem of trying to send to an email address with two @ signs.

Please advise, thanks!

Hi Vladimir -

You are right, the double @ will definitely cause an issue.  My best suggestion is to re-name your queues to not have @ symbols in them if you want to email to specific queues.
