Recycle bin or Undelete

I love GQueues but my business partner, who is brand new to it,
accidentally deleted his entire category and all the queues, tasks,
subtasks, and assignments underneath it after working to set things up
for an hour. He didn't quite understand what a category or queue was
and his action proves it is far too easy to remove massive amounts of
work. I don't see a recycle bin or undelete. A recycle bin would be
ideal. Is there a way to do this or are their plans for one?

Thanks,
Jeff

Hi Jeff -

Yes, no recycle bin at this point, but it's on my list of improvements to add.

If a person accidentally deletes an individual task this can be un-done as shown here:

Deleting an entire queue or category cannot be un-done at this point, which is why there is an extra prompt to make sure you want to move forward.  I agree though, being able to recover from this type of action would be ideal.

I just deleted the wrong queue by accident. Its too easy to select the wrong queue and with no way back it really is devastating to loose my entire list. I'm reconsidering rolling this out to my 120 user base, if I can do this by accident they will. Recycle bins are pretty standard these days and I'm shocked that you can't go back, especially when using it for business.

I agree. Makes one cautious about experimenting. Undo would be welcome.

Cameron, have you considered a weekly or monthly poll on your future feature list?

Cameron, in the meantime, would it be possible to have a URL that will
download a CSV of all tasks? I know this can be done from the
import/export menu, but it would be helpful to be able to automate it
(using, for example, 'wget' under Linux).

A poll of features would be nice to have, although it shouldn't unduly
influence which features are developed next. A roadmap (ie, telling rather
than asking) would be a plus.

Just re-read my post. I actually deleted my "Category", then the queue was nuked as a result.. I've finally recovered from my anxiety attack as a result of losing my to do list and now have begun to rebuild my life.

It would be much appreciated if a recycle or deleted folder could be added to gqueues. The undo option is good for an item you just deleted but it doesn't give you the option to view multiple tasks that you have deleted. Another option would be to add a prompt  window for when you delete an individual task to avoid deleting by mistake.

Thanks!

+1 for this feature.

So we know all the things you actually have in your planning vs the stuff you are considering. Having this in a sticky topic could save you a lot of questions I'm guessing.

Here is the roadmap, Verdi.  And yes, these are currently the top 3 priorities right now as far as major features go.  I have hundreds of smaller improvements on my internal lists which I develop as it makes sense with current feature work and the overall development schedule.

It's absolutely essential to have a recycle bin and/or a way to undelete any previously deleted task.

To my great dismay, GQueues deleted several of my tasks without my knowledge.  Here's how it happened.  I hit shift-click to an already completed task.  The tooltip says that hitting shift-click will archive a task.  Great, I thought, that's what I want.  Instead, GQueues DELETED my task.  I inadvertently deleted about 10 tasks this way before I realized what was going on.

Clearly a major bug in the system (or error in the tooltip instructions). Either way, I have lost those tasks.  Having a recycle bin would have at least given me a way to get those tasks back!

Thanks for the feedback, Michael.

It sounds like the tasks you archived were subtasks, is that correct?  If so, see here for how you can go to the Task Overview to view archived subtasks while the parent task is still open:

Hi Cameron,

Seems like you are responding to a different post, not mine.  I reported a rather unfortunate bug. Will this issue be fixed at any point?

Hi Michael -

I was responding to your post.  What I was trying to say, is that your missing tasks actually might not be deleted, but you have to look for them in a different way.  Were the tasks you shift-clicked subtasks?  If so, check out the link I provided:

You might try searching for missing tasks by name in the search box and you may be able to track them down that way too (be sure the look in the "Archived" section of the search results, too)

When I click on the "Archived" button for the queue I'm working with, the tasks I did shift-click to are not there.  Other archived tasks are there.  So, they are deleted, correct?

Hi Michael -

Sorry, I forgot to say that I agree a Recycle Bin would be an ideal solution.  It's on the list of improvements and just needs to compete with other priorities to make it to the top of the list.

If you are interested in finding the subtasks that are missing in your account, you can go to the parent task and click on the magnifying glass icon.

This will show you a special view called "Task Overview" which shows you both active and archived tasks together for a parent task.

This is the only way to view archived subtasks while the parent task is still active.  Archived subtasks will NOT appear in the normal "Archived" section until the parent task is also archived.

Best,
Cameron

Thanks for your note.  Couple of quick comments:
  • I think the way subtasks and archiving is being handled by the browser version of GQ is quite confusing to say the least.  Hoping for some improvements in this area!
  • Having said that, the android client shows archived subtasks without any problems.
  • Looking forward to seeing the recycle bin, which is a sorely needed feature.
