Gqueues has potential, but needs serious work. For what it has to work
with (google), kudos for getting Gqueues out the door and working as
well as it does. If GQueues can resolve the issues I've listed below;
maybe it will be a product worth purchasing.

Maybe it's me having a bad hair day... but am I the only user that has
accidentally figured out how to make the Gqueues experience
unpleasant? Since hooking up Gqueues with my google.apps for the trial
period; I've experienced the following in just a few days, which makes
Gqueues a non-starter for my company:
1. Recurring queues cannot be set for only one future recurring day of
week... The current day of week cannot be deselected (i.e. if I set up
a recurring appointment, weekly, for Friday and it is Tuesday today...
The "Tuesday" recurring box becomes a permanent part of the recurring
schedule). The day you make the recurring item stays as a permanent
part of your recurring items' schedule, making the recurring item
unusable. You can't save, go back and modify either.

2. Refresh between google and GQueues is flaky at best. Perhaps that's
the nature of the beast, having to interface over the internet with
calendaring and task modes in real time. I think the post/refresh/
latency aspect of the internet is the bane of all collaborative apps
for small businesses (it won't go away until your bandwidth is crazy
fast and latency is low)...so there's not much I could expect to be
done in this regard.

3. GQueues creates calendar items in one direction only. Calendar
items you create and add to the GQueues calendar from within
google.apps calendar do not translate back over to the Gqueues
interface, which hamstrings the GQueues/google calendar integration.

4. Importing/Exporting data sets (for google tasks; Gqueues calendars;
google calendars, etc.) is, for the most part, unavailable as a useful
tool. Why migrate to a new productivity app if you can't actually
migrate your data... literally? Doh!

5. Gqueues calendar gadget keeps "disappearing." Don't bother using
google.apps shortcut links, as they will bypass Gqueues handling of
gadgets. With google.apps, you'll have to switch to loading a standard
chrome page in order to take advantage of Gqueues shortcuts/gadgets/
widgets/wonkydonks.

6. Gqueues calendar gadget is a visual "display," and "completed"
checkbox, interface only. As I'm looking for a google tasks
replacement, if I can't use my calendar page with the same
interactivity that google tasks offers, at the very least; then WHATS
THE POINT OF SAYING IT"S INTEGRATED? Having to alt-tab or switch
monitors, or whatever, back and forth between google calendar and the
unique Gqueues window/interface kills it. This fundamental user
interface problem is compounded, as one has to keep "refreshing" to
keep the data updated between the two interfaces (see item #2 above).

I'll keep my eyes peeled for improvements. I'm tired of
MSOutlook...and sick of google.tasks falling so short of the mark.
Disappointed that GQueues looks so promising on the surface.

Thanks for the feedback.  You've brought up some good points for improvements.  Some of these pain points can be alleviated though I think with just some short explanations.

1.  If you want a repeating task to occur every Friday, for the first due date of the task choose a Friday.  The reason it was forcing you to include Tuesday in the repeating pattern was the first due date you had chosen for the task was a Tuesday.

2.  Yes, unfortunately you have to hit the "Refresh" button in Google Calendar or the current queue in GQueues to see recent changes immediately.

3.  Calendar syncing does happen BOTH ways.  When you create new items in your Google Apps calendar though, you must make sure the event is added to the "GQueues" calendar, not your default Apps calendar.  All GQueues tasks and syncing happen between GQueues and the GQueues calendar that is created when you activate calendar integration.

4. Yes, I probably need to setup some wizards to help import from other tasks systems.

5.  I haven't heard of this problem from other Apps users or my own apps account, but I'll investigate more.

6.  Yes, more functionality in the gadgets will be useful and it's already on my list.  However, one option is to change your settings in GQueues so that when you delete an task in Calendar it marks it as complete in GQueues.  http://www.gqueues.com/help/calendarIntegration#cancelEvents

I hope some of this helps. Best of luck in finding a product/system that works for you!

Hi Cameron,

I am wondering if there is anyway to improve the display or 'lag time' (my apologizes if that's not the correct term!) in Gqueues so that a browser refresh is not required to properly display changes that have been made in task lists or queues. It would be much appreciated if we should see additions or deletions immediately and that they would remain permanent. A few of us in our office are testing Gqueues and we noticed in the last few days that sometimes changes will be instant and then when we've gone back to the window a little while later the change will have reverted back and we either need to refresh the page or log out and then log back in. Another instance we have experienced is simply that a change made isn't instant or when a task added in date or alphabetically order the page needs to be refreshed at least once if not more for the changes and order to show up properly.

If this can be addressed soon that would be great and will help us make the decision to transition to using Gqueues throughout the whole office.

Thank you!

Hi Stephanie -

You are talking about a queue that you have shared with someone else, and you both have it open and are working on it simultaneously, correct?  There is a one to two second lag between one person making a change and it showing up on the other person's screen.  If the changes aren't showing at all, I suggest closing the browser window completely and opening GQueues in a new window, as this will reset the syncing connection (if GQueues is left running in the same window for long periods of time - like all day - sometimes the syncing connection gets dropped, and this will help it reconnect).

Also you can just manually refresh a queue by clicking the Refresh button at the bottom or typing the keyboard shortcut "r" if that helps at all.
