How do I view the email that I created a task from?

When I create a task via email, it shows on GQ's list, but the link
doesn't actually take me to the email with the information I need to
complete the task.

So for example, I get an email with a todo or task from someone, I
then create the task with the GQ plugin, and then when I check my
tasks, there's no way to link back to the email....although it appears
it has a unique ID, I just get the general email view.

Hoping someone can tell me how to fix this? Thanks!

Hi Saki -

I saw your post earlier today - thanks for reporting the issue.  It seems that for accounts that have not activated multiple-account sign-on, the email links created by the GQueues Gmail Gadget were not getting correctly forwarded on to the right email (and just leaving you at the inbox as you described).

I made a change to fix this earlier this afternoon.  Try creating tasks with the gadget now.  They should include links in the form of:

now which should take you to the correct email.

Thanks for working on this. I just created a task from this email and
it had the same result - it took me to the general email view.

Hmmm.  Does the link look like the new format or the old?  I know the gadget gets cached within email so the new version might not be active yet for your account.  But if the link is in the new format and it still doesn't work then something else is going on that I will need to investigate.  So please let me know either way.  -Cameron

Thanks Cameron. What should it look like? Should wait some time or is
there a way to refresh or empty the GQ cache?

Hi Cameron,

Just letting you know...It's still not working as of 6:12 PM Pacific
Time. I've signed in/out of GQ's and tested.

Saki -

Can you tell me whether the link in the task looks like option 1 or option 2 below:

Option 1:

Option 2:
(where DOMAIN_NAME is your domain)

Three things:

1) I have one of each. An older one with the domain and a newers ones
with mail - Neither work
2) When I do try and click the email link, it opens up a new window
each time and then I have multiple gmail windows open instead of the
one I was working in so I have to close 5 or more extra windows when
done.
3) I just noticed, none of the notes I wrote while creating a task in
email transfer to the GQ's dashboard.

Thanks again for looking into this. Hope this helps.

Short version: It's still broken.

Are you logged in to multiple Google accounts in the same browser by chance?  That could definitely be causing issues as it might be looking for the email in the wrong account when you click the link.

When you navigate to an particular email yourself, what does the URL in the address bar of the browser read?  Can you post an example here?  I am no longer able to reproduce the problem since the fix a few days ago.

I've checked and only logged in using this single account in Safari.

What do you mean by navigate myself? Do you mean through GQ's or just
using gmail in a browser. The latter looks like this in Safari for the
email you just sent me:

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?shva=1#inbox/13221eba02d05133

In GQ's the task looks like this:
https://mail.google.com/a/dreamgrowers.net/#inbox/131ff02a87583b61

or this:
https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox/1322153ef7e4381c

HI Cameron,

Just wondering if you've made any progress on having emails open from
the task created from that email?

Hi Wes -

This issue only seems to be affecting a few domains, sporadically, so I'm having trouble tracking down the issue.

Unfortunately the links to an email don't include anything that is account-specific.  So when you click on a link, Google opens Gmail for whatever account you are currently signed into.  If it doesn't find an email with the messageID specified in the URL then it just goes to your Inbox.

There are two things you can do to help me track down the problem:

1. Create a task using the GQueues Gmail gadget.  Send me the link that the gadget creates to the email (either a screenshot of the task or copy/paste the link in an email to me).

I'm assuming clicking the link just takes you to your Inbox instead of the actual message

2. Manually find the message in your email and open it.  Copy/paste or take a screenshot of the URL in the browser's address bar.

This way I can see the difference between the link that GQueues is creating and what it should actually be.

Below are examples of the info you could provide the would be helpful figuring out the issue:

Haven't seen a solution on this.  I have a similar issue.  I'm using GQ's on a Google App domain.  I'm logged into both my personal Gmail account and the domain account in the same browser (one inbox each in its own tab).  When I click on an email link in a task, it takes me to the Inbox of my personal gmail (which also signs me out of my domain account).

I created a test task from an email in my domain account.  Link in the task looks like this: https://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox/1367b53094e3c753  Link in the browser looks like this: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/1/#inbox/1367a255bf388416

Hope this helps to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Keith

Hi Cameron,

Had the same issue and still having it now. Here is a list of link that worked and the link to email in browser:

signed into only one gmail account, same link is created as when logged into multiple gmail accounts, link goes only to inbox, not to target email...

Here's the link that actually works (and what shows up in gmail as url when the email is open):

Are you logged in to multiple Google accounts in the same browser by chance?  That could definitely be causing issues as it might be looking for the email in the wrong account when you click the link.

When you navigate to an particular email yourself, what does the URL in the address bar of the browser read?  Can you post an example here?  I am no longer able to reproduce the problem since the fix a few days ago.

Hi Cameron,

loving GQs, especially applying the GTD system on it!

unfortunately I'm having the same issue with the link on a task from the email it was created from leading me back to the inbox rather than the email itself... Interestingly, there's two of us to date using GQs on our Google Apps account, and the other person doesn't have this issue.

for example, the task looks like

but the email itself is

I can't seem to get an email specific url, instead I can just see the 'folder/label' that the email is in, as you can see above...

help please!!

thanks!

Hi Max -

I just did a little more testing here and it seems like the issue might be with the Safari browser.

I created a task from an email using the gadget.

If I open GQueues in a Chrome browser and click the link it opens my email account and displays the correct email.

If I open GQueues in Safari and click the exact same link it opens my email account but only shows the Inbox and not the specific email.

So I would suggest trying the same thing - using Chrome instead of Safari and see if the specific emails display for you.

Hi Cameron,

I'm on Safari and experience the same issue when trying to open e-mail from the task. Is there any chance to get a fix for this?

Hi Volodymyr -

I am currently working on an overhaul of the GQueues Gmail Gadget which will eliminate this issue.

Hi Cameron,

I have got an e-mail which describes new feature of adding e-mail body as description to the task created from GMail. Unfortunately, issue with linked e-mail is not fixed with this update. Should there be any specific action to make it work on Safari (I'm working on Mac and everything is just fine except for this)?

Hi Volodymyr -

The new GQueues for Gmail is a Chrome Extension.  So it only works with the Chrome web browser.  It can be installed by following these steps:

This is essentially replacing the old GQueues Gmail Gadget.  So yes, the "link" issue still exists in the old GQueues Gmail Gadget.  If you want to take advantage of the new ability to "attach" an email to a task then you will need to switch to using the Chrome Extension.  Sorry, at this point there isn't anything available for the Safari browser.

Hi Cameron,

Got you, thank you. It was just a hope that there is something behind the scene that can affect Safari as well.
Thank you for your quick reply.

Hi Cameron,

I just noticed that I don't see GQueues GMail gadget in Safari any more. I have found info that it is not supported any more. There is a Chrome extension instead of it. Is there the same for Safari?

Hi Volodymyr -

Yes, the old GQueues Gmail Gadget was shutdown on April 20th.  You should have received an email a few weeks ago about this change (perhaps it went to spam though).  Full details can be found here:

Hi Cameron, GQueues team,

It's been a while I was not using GQueues for my task management and it happened that I moved to Chrome on my macOS. At the moment I'm evaluating an option to get back to GQueues and using trial license at the moment which expires by the end of Jan. I have submitted a question few days ago related to GQueues integration with GMail and didn't get any response yet. Here is a message I've sent:

Your message:
Hi, I have installed GQueues for Gmail and have an issue in GMail main window - I simply do not have Create Task button. Once I open e-mail with Shift+Click on e-mail, Create Task button appears in popped up window. How can I get Create task button so that I will not need to open e-mail in a separate window in order to create task from e-mail?

Please, let me know if this can be fixed somehow as it seem to be a blocker for me at the moment. I'm ready to get annual subscription for GQueues for You if I can overcome this issue.

Hi Volodymyr,

I also replied to your email, but the reason that you are experiencing trouble with the GQueues for Gmail Extension is likely due to using the Preview Pane Lab for Gmail (where the list of emails is on the left, and you can view a selected email on the right).  If this is enabled for your email account, the "Create Task" button will not appear while previewing an email, and will ONLY appear by using Shift+Click on the e-mail.

https://www.gqueues.com/help/gmailExtension#previewPane

I hope that helps!

Stacie

Hi Stacie,

Thank you for response, this clarifies a lot. Is there any plans to add this functionality to Preview Pane as well?
