This is an exciting tool. However, looking at the blog posts and list of new features, it seems like things have slowed down over the last few months. What are the future development plans for GQueues?

Contimplating the switch from Toodledo.

One thing I would love to see is a checkmark feature in the integrated calendar, the way google tasks do.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris -

Yes, the blog posts have slowed, but development certainly has not!  Here is the roadmap:

Search is currently in beta (see here for becoming a tester) and the Android app is in active development.

Thanks for the checkmark suggestion.  There are some technical hurdles to overcome with this, but I've added it to the list of improvements to make.

Cameron,

Thanks for a quick response. Ok, this is exciting. The more I play with what is working I can see very nice quality.

I am glad you are going to make mobile apps, the web UI is ok, but is not very fluid like on the PC. Fast and flexible on the mobile would be very welcome.

There has been development, but I DO think the pace has dropped off a bit looking at the feature list.

I am deep into using GQueues and am relatively happy but it seems to me that development is VERY slow and not up to par.  New developments and improvements have been to few and far between. I do hope that this aspect can be improved because if not, there are and well be better alternatives out there. I am getting close to the point of actively investigating options and making a move if things don't improve.

Mike,

You mention: "there are and well be better alternatives out there." What are the examples you are referring too?

Truly I love that GQueues integrates with google and calendar. That I have not seen else where.

Thanks,
Chris

Todoist is one example. I used to use it before I moved to GQueues.
GQueues is better (at least was then) but I am not sure that with this pace of development it is still the right option.
I would prefer to stay with GQueueus and not go back or somewhere else but only if it is being developed at a reasonable pace.

Cameron, I just have to say, that even though I raised this question, I am truly impressed with GQueues and my motivation in asking the question is just to make sure this program will have a long life.

The calendar integration is flawless and is such a great blend of tasks and work. I also think the UI is well thought out and I also think your roadmap is the right path.

I am curious, have you thought of an API for GQueues or maybe there already is?

The one area where I would like more flexibility is in the smart queues. I prefer to have more "and" or "Or" options.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris -

Thanks for raising the question, and I am sorry development is not fast enough for some users.  I had hoped to release search at the beginning of Fall, but it's been stuck in beta as I wait for Google to set pricing on the App Engine Search API.

I've pushed on though with development of the native Android app which I hope to have out before the holidays, with the iOS app to follow in the new year.

Unfortunately there is not currently an API for GQueues.

With searches saved as smart queues you will have much more flexibility with AND and OR logic.  See here to join the beta tester group and take advantage of this capability:

I don't know about the pace of development, but I appreciate the product so far, and I really like the roadmap (both what you are doing and the fact that you give insight into it).

I have our domain using it now (about 60 users) and I also pay for GQueues personally.  I was wondering if the Android app would support multiple accounts (i.e. both my Google account and my Google apps account).  I realize this may not be a huge thing for all people, but for those of us who use it both professionally and personally, it will be critical.

Thanks again for the great product.  Definitely looking forward to a native Android app!

Yes, the Android app is being built to support multiple accounts!  Two taps to switch between GQueues accounts - and no need to re-enter passwords, etc...

Cameron,

That is amazing.  I really like Google's products, but sometimes it is very hard to be a Google Apps customer and Google personal user.  You have just kept a customer for a much longer time period!

Cameron,

One more question if I may.  I was wondering why you decided to go Android first.  I am a big Android enthusiast, but definitely still appreciate iOS and what it did for the industry.  I see many developers go iOS first, but I am starting to see the tide turn (ever so slightly) to more developers doing Android first and I was just wondering what your motivation was.  Was is purely the numbers of users for GQueues on Android were more than iOS was, or the integration with Google that Android has, or another reason altogether?

Yes, mostly a numbers decision.  I surveyed GQueues users back in May about which new features they would want most and more people responded with Android app than iOS app (though it was pretty close).

Speaking as a long time Android user I would say that for Gqueues in particular the Android software is the logical choice. Gqueues is very much Google orientated and Android software has better integration with the Google ecosystem. Personally speaking I like everything to play together and it's one of the reasons I still keep a Gqueues account. There are other options like Todoist which are great in their own right but none integrate with Google calendar as tightly as Gqueues does. Once we get the native app nothing will be able to touch Gqueues IMO.

@Cameron - Adding my voice to say how much I enjoy & rely on GQs. It's a 'go-to' for me both in terms of a steady workhorse alongside Gmail, Calendar & Drive, and in terms of a well considered web app.  The roadmap looks brilliant and I'm excited to see some front end evidence of what I know must be a lot of work back end.

Keep up the fantastic work - you've certainly still got me as a happily paying customer.

Cameron,

Ah, what to say... These day too many things, people, projects and etc, move too fast for their own good. I appreciate very much that GQueues works as well as it does in the Google environment. And most importantly that you are staying with it. A beautiful thing, a beautiful thing. Nobodys going to eat your lunch for a very long time to come so long as you continue to manage this in the most thoughtful way that you have to date.

Yes we all want more but your patience, due diligence, honesty, transparency and etc, I could go on, are truly appreciated by me and most other GQueues users I am sure.

Yes, it seems like tablets are here to stay... :)

The Android app I'm working on right now is designed both for phones and tablets.  The iOS app will also be built for both the iPhone and iPad.

Hi Cameron, I just wanted to say congrats! Gqueues is an awesome product so far. I believe that the android app (which I'm waiting for desperately), will be a great plus that will make more users to move to GQ. Keep on your good work!
