Something useful would be to add some tags to the tasks in the friend
queues
allowing us to use them in a smart queue.
My suggestions:
Synchronize your tasks with your mobile phone (WM, Android,
Iphone...) ;
Share a category ;
Indicate of the progress of a task ;
Indicate who give this task if that's not you.
Good luck to you.
SoX
MY suggestions :
Chat on shared queues (know who's online...)
Differents queues levels : with a tree structure (on the left,
Categories / Labels /Queues / ...)
Enable Shared queues to be moved in own queues
Thanks a lot,
I'm speaking to many people about your work :D
BIzut
I think I would find it useful to be able to relocate Smart Queues to
the top, above My Queues — a Settings option, I guess, to reorder the
3 types of queues on the left.
With that, a way to hide some smart queues, as they accumulate,
without closing Smart Queues wholly — like the +/- show/hide for
Categories in My Queues. (I don't know if it makes sense to simply
provide for categories in Smart Queues. Still getting acquainted with
the logic here.)
I'll add that I'm looking forward to an iPhone app for offline access
someday!
— Paul B.
Currently, tags don't seem to be shared when a queue is shared (is
that right?)... I would like to be able to share tags. And share
Smart Queues.
And one idiosyncrasy that I noticed, where I'm not sure if the logic
makes sense: When you do "Order by Date" in a regular queue, it puts
items without dates at the end of the list. But in the Smart Queues,
items without dates are put at the beginning of the list.
Thanks much for your work!
- More dynamic notes section. By that I mean, I'd love to be able to
do carriage returns to add longer notes, and the ability to add
hyperlinks
- Ability to link to Google Docs documents. I'd like to be able to
link a document to the associated task and/or queue.
- Ability to link to Google Contacts. I'd like the ability to link a
task/queue to an associated contact (not collaborator) or list of
contacts.
- An iPhone app. The mobile browser app is adequate, but it's not as
dynamic as a real application could be.
Awesome work so far!
1) I'm using this for school, and I've created Queues like:
Phys 2210
* Read Ch1
* Read Ch2
...
Chem 1210
* Read Ch1
* Read Ch2
...
But in the calendar gadget, all I see is several "Read Ch1" and a
couple "Read Ch2". There is no indication as to which queue those
items are associated with. Could you please color code or include some
kind of indication in the Calendar Gadget so that I know which item is
in which queue?
2) Another request would be: Please include a way to set defaults per
queue. eg: for my Phys 2210, the time the items are due would default
to 10am with a reminder 3 days before-hand. The Chem 1210 would
default to 2pm without a standard reminder.
It would be great to set things like that once for the queue, instead
of manually clicking and dragging the slider for the time in each and
every new assignment I put in the queue.
3) I would also like to be able to select a group of tasks. and
perform some operation like adding a tag, or duplicating a set of 4
tasks that reoccur each week.
4) Moving tasks with ctrl-up or ctrl-down (or some other shortcut)
would be great as well. As far as other keyboard shortcuts, I would
like a way to insert a task immediately below (or before) the
currently selected task. Perhaps one way to include more shortcuts
would be to have a general shortcut: alt-shift-k or alt-shift-space or
something, that would enter a shortcut mode... then I could type
single letters (as in gmail, and google calendar) to do the various
actions like add a tag, add a note, move it up and down, delete it,
add a task before, add a task after, make it a sub task, and so on.
One possible method for accomplishing that, would be to have the alt-
shift-[whatever] put the cursor in a special hidden/visually-off-
screen text box, where you can parse whatever is typed in that box,
and perform the actions via javascript in the data, and in the dom.
5, 6, and 7) I found GQueues when I was searching for something that
could import tasks, like from a text document. If you could add this
feature, I suspect it would enable you to create a google-tasks like
interface as well. An optional box on the right hand side (or
wherever) that lets you type, hit enter for new tasks, hit tab to make
it a sub-task. Hit shift-tab to bring it back in the hierarchy. Ctrl-
up/Ctrl-down to move the task order (with all sub-tasks). I wonder if
you can somehow reuse the google tasks interface to do this? Maybe an
import/export/sync from google tasks to a given queue. Or even, each
list in Google Tasks could be put in a separate queue, and then kept
in sync... Maybe you could even use the google-tasks-like text-box to
handle the keyboard shortcuts (see #4). In that case it would be
something that is always there and used in the background, but not
necessarily visible, unless the user specifies it should be.
8) I'm adding the tasks from the syllabus of each of my classes. So
far I have queues with: 41, 49, 27, 0, and 25 tasks. Obviously, the
one with 0 tasks is quick to load. I would love any kind of speed
improvements, so that the lists can load faster. Perhaps some kind of
offline/local storage would do the trick (I'm thinking of the html5
storage stuff, or maybe google gears).
Thanks again,
Jacob Floyd
Best would be to put all those into a WebOS app, whether in native
code via the coming PDK (March or thereabouts) or otherwise (normal
WebOS SDK, all-web-technology). The benenfit I'm looking for out of
that is local storage for access to my queues when off-line, say,
while on a plane.
this way when adding a task i will always have my gcal in site so i
can know when to add a time related task.
thanks
tal
That would be cool to have a gadget that I can include in Google Wave.
A communal Queue or Smart Queue maybe? A shared queue in a wave
gadget?
I don't know how complex this is, but I can see the benefit for those
that use Google Wave and Google Queues alot.
Personally, I'm not working with enough people, and none of them use
either GQueues or Google Wave, so all of those spiffy collaboration
tools don't get used by me (yet).
Thanks again,
Jacob Floyd

What a breeze to have a more robust taskmanager in Gmail.
I come from the office outlook world... and one taskmanager software I
liked was this one http://accomplice.vertabase.com/
It looks old school but he ideas behind t are quite good. I
recommand :
- the minibar that shows up on the top edge of the screen to add a
task in a super fast and non disturbing way
- the "on my plate" concept. It allowed me to set easily my daily
list of "task-I-must-achieve-by-the-end-of-the-day". And it's a subtle
difference from the usual "priority concept". ex : a task can be
important and I want to set it a high priority. But it does not mean I
want to do it today. So being able set priority aside of setting "on
my plate" tag is quite handy.
that's it !
GQueues continues to be a great tool for me, and I was just wondering
if you have a priority list of what will be coming down the road, in
addition to the above 4 items?
As always, we owe a great deal to you for all your hard work here!

I'm hoping you will also find a little time for a couple of
"fixes" (ie my GCal and GQueues are out of sync).
Thanks,
Rick
Here are my 2c:
(1) Make your mobile version as powerful as your desktop version: With
more and more people owning smartphones nowadays, there shall continue
to be dramatic shift to getting a bulk of GTD scheduling / planning
away from the computer during some freetime during the day (eg: while
commuting to work in a bus or train, standing in line at the post-
office / super market or the last thing while lying in the bed before
going to sleep). This is just plainly more effective (you make use of
what used to be downtime and you also become more aware of the day's
work many times a day). I'd say 90% of my daily tasks or schedule
input / review / monitoring happens on my Ipod Touch. Today's
smartphones are ideal for GTD work, IMHO.
Personally, I'd love an app that I can use with my Ipod Touch even
without wifi access (I think you may already be working on this).
Besides this, just making the mobile app as usable as the desktop
version (entry of new tags, easy indentation for sub-tasks, etc) would
be great. One should be able to do everything with the mobile version
that one can do with the main version and just as easily.
(2) Option for password protection for your (final) mobile version:
Many of us give the smarphones to kids for playing games, etc.
Generally, signing in using your google account happens automatically
when you click on the icon on a smartphone. It would be great if there
was one more (numerical 4 digit) password entry here for additional
security (like momo in the iphone which also uses the google account
sign-in).

When GQueues starts up, I think it would make more sense to start in
the inbox than in whichever queue happens to be first in the list.
As an extension, it would be nice to select which Queue or Smart Queue
is opened when logging in. eg: Due Today, or Overdue could be loaded
to help remind someone of the things they've got to get done asap. Or,
in my case, the inbox would be my starting point, so that I can sort
through all of the tasks I've sent to GQueues from my phone.
Thanks again,
Jacob
repeat every: textbox [ x number ] of dropdown [days/months]
it will be verrry useful for all kinds of tasks.
Request 2: Many time I have a set of routines I do for a project. I
don't want to create them every time (its also no recurring)
I'm a web designer for every project, I have to register domain,
allocate space, send details to client, finish mock up, send for
approval and so on.
So an ability to create a routine Queues (which can be named according
to the project) and marking done task as I finish, would be a super
cool addition to Gqueues.
Thanks a lot.
If you follow this thread, you may find what you are looking for in
your number 2 request ....

Regarding request 1. Could you please make it a text box which accepts
numbers within 1 to 365 instead of dropdown, If I have to set a task
based on moon cycle or something in those lines, I would have to set
it to repeat odd number of days. In that case textbox would be
powerful.
Thanks.

Hear, hear.
The closest I've used is Gubb.net and while it too is excellent, it
doesn't seem to be being actively developed. As it stands now, I think
GQueues is already more useful. In particular, having the Queues on
the right hand side is a way better idea than Gubb's up to 4-column
approach.
- Fix that bug
You can select the text and then click a button that turns it into a
task, which then shows up in your task list.
That would be very cool!
Thanks for all your work on this Cameron.

In the mobile version, when you click [Edit] while viewing the queues,
it allows you to edit the queue title, re-order the queues, or delete
queues. However, when viewing tasks, if you click [Edit], it only
allows for editing the task title or deleting a task. No provision
for reordering them.
I didn't understand what this section was far (feature requests).
Please forgive that this is a cross post of what I brought up in the
general forum now placed in the right spot:
Hi Cameron,
I've run into a situation I feel GQueues could be made to easily
handle.
What's more, I think this would be useful for tons of different people
and would be a real "unique selling proposition".
Automatically repeat new event X units of time after last marked
completed.
Let me give you a few examples.
Let's say I work out according to a "high intensity" training protocol
where rest periods are very important. So, if I'm working out once
every 7 days and have a scheduling/recovery/motivation conflict and
miss a day, I don't want to wait 13 days until my next workout... I
still want it to be 7 days later.
Likewise, let's say my sister wants to clean her house at least every
7 days so dust and dirt doesn't gather too much... maybe she doesn't
get it done on Tuesday, and instead does it 2 days early on Sunday.
Dust is STILL going to accumulate so she doesn't want to wait 9 days
until the next session for the sake of getting it done on Tuesdays;
she wants to make sure to clean the house within 7 days maximum.
Further, if I check my car's oil or check tire pressure or even ensure
my WordPress plugins are up-to-date once every 30 days, but for some
reason I let it get overdue and don't do it for 43 days... the next
incidence is STILL due in 30 days, not 17 days.
Etc. Etc. And etc.
This pattern occurs over and over again.
It would be SO helpful to have a feature that repeats the next event X
days/weeks/months after the previous event is marked completed.
Even like a landlord changing the tenants' smoke detector batteries.
Regardless of how often they were changed in the past -- and that's
the key thing in this type of pattern -- they need to be changed every
year for safety and legal liability reasons.
Yes, you COULD manually fiddle with the date every time, but that
loses the speed and elegance that is possible. It also introduces a
possibility for error each and every time.
But if we could just use our GQueues GCal gadget to check the box for
a task, we know my next task will automatically pop up right on
schedule easy peasy.
What do you think?
Cameron, are you updating this?

Anyway, I just wanted to agree with what Rod is saying about the lack
of ability to reorder tasks in the mobile version. There are two
features missing from the mobile version that, if I had them, I would
almost never have to go to the PC version. One is the ability to
manually reorder tasks within a queue along with the 'sort by date'
option. The other, and perhaps most needed, is the ability to move a
task from the Inbox and into some other queue. These two missing
features are severely hampering the usefulness of the app for me
because all of my internet access is thru my Droid and when I need to
use my PC to access the internet I have to tether it to my phone (or
find a WiFi hotspot), and I have to wait until my PC is tethered to
manage my queues.
Along this same line, the lack of any development activity on the
mobile version concerns me. The team seems very responsive to feature
requests in the PC version and I'm afraid that as the PC version gets
more feature-laden that maintaining it will become an all-consuming
task and there just won't be any resources available to develop the
mobile version.
Please, Cameron, throw us mobile users a bone. The two features I
mentioned above would make me very happy (and quiet) for a while.
Don't misunderstand me, I think you are doing an awesome job with the
product and, quite honestly, don't see how you manage to maintain the
pace that you do.
Awesome to hear you're going to enhance mobile access. Right now I
(frequently) use Opera Mobile on a 240x320 cell phone... so I have no
mobile GQueues access now.
I'm planning to buy either an iPhone or a 'droid and GQueues is going
to weigh heavily on my decision. I'm not buying it on a particularly
urgent schedule so I can wait a few months.
I heard, rightly or wrongly, that iPhone is currently better
supported.
All things otherwise being equal, would you recommend I get an iPhone
or 'droid so far as GQueues mobile usage is concerned?
Cheers,
Christoph

Maggie ~:)
I would like to be able to drag a task over a collapsed category, and
have it automatically expand so that I can put the tasks in a queue in
that category. Then when it's placed, the category can collapse again.
Thanks,
Jacob
I am experiencing some issues I wanted to pass on:
1) More than once, I've reordered items only to have them reappear in
the original order later; i.e., the reorder isn't being saved. I've
tried several things to try and save them -- re-order then click
[Back] to get to the queue list; re-order, click [Back], and [Back] to
get back to the queue category list (top level). Nothing seems to
have an affect. I would consider this a high-priority. If you could
help me understand what steps are expected (programmatically) for the
reorder to be "accepted" that might help me better determine what is
going on and provide better feedback.
2) I suggest a modification to the reorder design: Could we do a long-
press on the item and then press on the item in the location where we
want it to be moved? For example: Long press item #6, press item #3,
and item #6 now appears in the #3 position while all others are moved
down. I often have many items in my list (I am a serious user of
GQueues) and having to press to move it one spot -- many times -- is a
bit tedious. I would consider this a lower priority (I can live with
the way it is) but it would be a great improvement.
3) Minor suggestion that the [Edit] button be renamed to [Reorder] or
something similar. Obviously this suggestion wouldn't make sense if
you are able to accomplish the one I mention above but, if that can't
be done, at least the button would better match its purpose.
Let me know if there is anyway I can help in this. I use GQueues all
the time for all of my tasks. Between it, Gmail, and Google Calendar,
I've been able to leave Outlook far behind. It is great on my
MotoDroid!

Right now, you have two awesome features:
* Publish a Queue
* Share a Queue (View Only or Collaborative Sharing)
I would like to see a bridge between the two. I would like to
"subscribe" to a published Queue (kind of like subscribing to an RSS
Feed), and it would show up in "Friend's Queues" as a view-only queue.
This way, I wouldn't have to go digging for the URL every time I
wanted to check in and see what you've got going on in your features
list. So there you go, there's one more item to add in to your
features list.
Good Luck!
