Receiving weather satellite images using Gqrx and RTLSDR

Greetings,

Today I have successfully received and decoded satellite images sent by the NOAA-15 polar orbiting weather satellite. If you are interested you can take a look at the howto I just posted:

Aweseme! this is pretty much why I got into SDR! What antenna did you
use for this?

I'm planning on building something like this one, a Quadrifilar Helix

Hi Paul,

In this particular case I used a handheld ArrowII satellite antenna:

For a permanent installation I think the QFH or similar antenna would
be better. You may want to try adding an LNA for lowering the noise
figure, in particular if you will need to run a longer coax from the
antenna.
