Good afternoon lads, i got gqrx preinstalled on Kali Linux, sadly apt-get update/apt-get upgrade doesn't upgrade it at all, wich is at version 2.1 that is absolutely awful, is there any tutorial on how to update it on kali linux, as i googled a lot and i didn't find anything related? Thanks

To get automatic updates of Gqrx, you need to have installed it through Alex's PPA:

   https://launchpad.net/~gqrx/+archive/ubuntu/releases

If that PPA won't work for your "Kali" distribution, you will need to compile GQRX and it's various dependencies yourself.  Not hard to do but it does take some time.

Francesco,

1) kali is a pen testing Linux, and that seems to be its focus, rather than being up with the bleeding edge

2) you've not yet told us what system you're trying to use: Processor, RAM, &c.

3) the simple answer to your question would be to adopt Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (for stability) and then install Alex's Ubuntu PPA iff you're using an x86 type processor.

4) These days it's comparatively easy to install Ubuntu (or other OS) on a USB stick or similar, or install Ubuntu (or Debian) in its own partition on the existing HDD—supporting that is very much outside the scope of this email list!

Actually i need Kali Linux, cant change OS, with ubuntu it would have been much simplier to have gqrx up to date, but i really cant. So i have absolutely no clue on how to update my gqrx, and because im kinda new to linux, what for someone could be easy stuff for me that same thing would be totally impossible, that's why i was asking if there was any step by step tutorial on how to update it on kali :/

If Kali is a requirement, you might have an issue in trying to use the provided binary packages from this official Gqrx repo.  Gqrx requires very modern versions of GnuRadio and other packages that aren't commonly available in most distributions.  If you need the newest Gqrx, you probably need to focus on being able to compile things from scratch.  I have a guide here on how to do that for Centos which might give you some pointers on how to do that:

#If you cannot find modern, prebuilt versions of GnuRadio
      http://www.trinityos.com/HAM/CentosDigitalModes/hampacketizing-centos.html#42b.gnuradio

   and then
      http://www.trinityos.com/HAM/CentosDigitalModes/hampacketizing-centos.html#42f.gqrx

Btw, as Robin mentioned, you can try out the newest Gqrx without distrupting your current Kali installation by trying out live distributions like Andy's HamRadio ISO:
