Hi All

I have just returned back to Gqrx from using SDR# in windows and was wondering if the below features are possible to add at all.

I was wondering if anyone has plans to add the following onto Gqrx but these are just my own ideas :-

1. Frequency Memory Manager - add, store and search frequencies
2. Bank searching memorised channels - group together stored frequencies (like airband for example)
3. Scan saved frequencies possibly by blocks (like scan all airband frequencies)
4. Scan and save frequencies - users can set a low and high frequency and scan repeatedly until stopped by user (just like with a radio scanner)
5. Audio filter width - selected by a drop down list (I know the user can currently drag the audio bandwidth).
6. Jump to strongest signal within the current bandwidth - this is really handy in the airband frequencies.
7. Record audio with no gaps - don't waste disk space and only write wav files when the squelch has been broken.

The above are a mixture of what SDR# can do (windows only) and what would be really useful to have.
Unfortunately I cannot code so I can not write these myself but how hard are these to do ?

Any response good or bad is welcome.

thanks in advance

Richard

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your input.

Memory management and scanning are frequently requested features and
while not difficult as such it still takes time to make a proper
design and implementation. Currently I have other more important tasks
on my list. I would also like to keep gqrx as simple as possible and I
think it will be better to wait until we enable the "gr-controlport"
interface provided by GNU Radio. That will provide external
applications with an interface to access various parameters within
gqrx and others could write memory manager and scanner applications
without having to worry about adding them to gqrx.

As for the audio recording, I thought we already had it the way you
describe, but apparently not. It must have been a patch I've seen
somewhere that never got submitted. Will fix that sometime.

Thanks Alex

I can understand you want the interface easy and simple. this is an excellent philosophy to keep to (actually quite hard to keep as software evolves).
The gr-control port addon is a very good idea. This should allow other developers to add their own addons without needing a new version of Gqrx.

as for the wav writing, I noticed this on the current version and a previous version that wav files were created with gaps in between the 'useful' parts of recordings.

Keep up the good work, I really like gqrx.
If I could write software, id help out but unfortunately I only test software (my day job) so I am naturally critical (in a constructive way) of software.
I apologise upfront if I come across as negative with Gqrx. I don't mean to and want Gqrx to flourish as it is a great piece of SDr software and now very easy to install on an Ubuntu based pc.

thanks again

Rich

Hello,

Part of the features you are asking are already available in rig-remote, like bookmarking, scanning and monitorimg.

Rig-remote is a companion software designed to be used with gqrx.

You can find it on github or in the external application page of gqrx.

Regards
