Hello everyone,

I am using Gqrx from Kali Linux 2.0.  I am able to open it and see the radio signal(actual waveforms) captured given a frequency. So, I want to record these waveforms using Audacity. However, I am running Audacity in Windows 8.1.  First step is to record in Gqrx, and then open that saved file in Audacity running in Windows. I have to use Audacity since I want to analyze the waveform to determine pattern of bits.

Any suggestions about how to do this is appreciated.

Thanks,

BigV

Keep in mind that recorded RF takes up HUGE amounts of space on your system, and all of that has to get loaded into RAM when you open it in Audacity.
Audacity runs on linux as well. You should just be able to do 'sudo apt-get install audacity'
There is a record button in GQRX

Thanks for the response. But when I tried to install audacity in kali Linux, I am getting the following message:Failed to fetch http://http.kali.org/kali/pool/main/a/audacity/audacity-data_2.1.2-1_all.deb  Could not resolve 'http.kali.org'. I have tried to search for it but had not discovered anything so far.

Thanks

The link downloads the .deb file directly, download that and install with 'dpkg -i audacity-data_2.1.2-1_all.deb'

Dear Big (sic!),

the error message, if it's accurately copied, indicates that the system could not resolve the domain name http.kali.org. (That should ultimately resolve to a download location). The causes could be:
  • no Internet connection (for instance LAN not connected to Internet)
  • no DNS configuration (either set manually or from DHCP)
  • problems in /etc/resolv.conf
  • firewall configured to block access to kali.org's IP address (on local machine or on LAN)
  • the DNS server (due to corporate policy, or ISP policy, or educational establishment worries &c.) blocking access to kali.org. [In this case one could try to use the well known Google DNS servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4]
  • something else!
There's no indication from you as to whether Kali is running as a live item or as an installation, nor as to what Internet connection is being used.

R.

Robin and Corey,

Thanks for the information. Following it, I was able to solve the issue and run audacity in Kali Linux. My firewall was blocking access to kali.org, and following the link sent by Corey I was able to install it.

Thanks again.
