Hello,

I am trying to run Gqrx on Debian Wheezy, however I get below error:

# gqrx
terminate called after throwing an instance of
'std::bad_alloc'
  what
():  std::bad_alloc
AborMy system:

My system:
uname -a
Linux debian 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u1 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I have DVB-T dongle based on the RTL2832U chipset and debian recognize it without any issue.

Gqrx version: 2.2.0.137.eca0ea7-1~bpo70+1

Do you have any idea or suggestion for running gqrx?

Thanks,

Ozan

It means the system failed to allocate the requested memory. Are you
perhaps running low on RAM?

Hello Alex,

I get the same error when I have 2GB free memory. What is needed for gqrx?

$ free -m
             total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:          3459       1358       2101          0         56        617
-/+ buffers/cache:        684       2774
Swap:         1905         19       1886

Regards,

Ozan.

Honestly, I don't know, but I guess 100-200 MB max. I have no idea how
this error can occur. I have never seen a memory allocation fail on
linux before even when the OS is running out of memory. Perhaps it is
another error in some of the libraries.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

I'm having the same problem after installing gqrx with apt-get from wheezy-backports on my machine:

Linux shark1 3.2.0-4-powerpc #1 Debian 3.2.60-1+deb7u3 ppc GNU/Linux

gqrx worked when I was running Ubuntu 12.04 on the very same hardware.

Make sure that the dongle isn't locked by the OS.

You can issue the terminal command:

sudo modprobe -r dvb_usb_rtl28xxu

to unlock it before running GQRX
