Hey wonderful people-

We're terribly sorry for the long delay, but here goes... Our first GQB Columbus event will be JULY 10, 2009 at 8 PM (That's a Friday, by the way). Yes, that's right. We're finally doing it.

Now that you know that date, keep checking your inbox for the location, which will be announced later in the week. It's already decided, but it's up to you all to speculate. Let's just say you should all look fabulous, because we're going to be in HD!

We ask that you wear pink and black for this event. Of course, if you can't, don't worry, the point of this event is to see your wonderful smiling faces out and about anyway.

So prepare to have a good time, prepare to socialize in a new place and prepare to make new friends. It's going to be a blast. Remember, GQB events are designed to have fun and be social. Tell all your friends, tell your mom, tell your dog, and above all... Be there!

As a rule, count on GQB Columbus to be organizing events for the second Friday of every month. We believe that this time coordinates well with other events around town and around the state.

We can't wait to see you!

Wow what a crappy first try.
Young lesbians mostly and some gay men... very young... who would not
even give me the time of day...great!
I felt a lot of straight hate vibe and heard the people who worked at
the bar saying they needed a big night...the service was shit and the
bar was a piece of crap. I had a bartender right in front of me and I
had money in sight and a empty drink and he never asked me if i needed
anything as he stocked beer in front of me.
I was not a regular and he ignored me like the fag I was....total shit
service.
I am not a old fag out to get some young ass but I felt like a total
reject at this venue.
Hello I had a black Blue Oyster Cult Godzilla Tshirt ( online name is
Zillafag) and bright Pink shoes and sat at the front of the bar so
hello I was not hiding.
Is this just for the young and hip or is this for all?
I sure felt like a outcast being the grandpa of the event..I am 47 and
fat...not a gay icon at all.
Now I must say I LOVE the idea of this event.
It matters.
It just sucked rotten hairy smelly balls.
And my balls are neither hairy or smelly...just a FYI
Okay here are my suggestions instead of just bitching.
There needs to be a update on the venue if it sucks and is
moved....Twitter or some kind of mass email to all.
8 pm is too early...most queers work till 11pm and the party does not
start till midnight or more at most bars in Columbus.
There needs to be a welcoming person or persons that gets even OLD
people involved.
The first time at this sucked and I dare anyone to say
otherwise...lets learn from our mistakes.
Lets kick ass in August!

David,

I respectfully disagree (emphasis on respectfully - your message was
rather disrespectful, IMHO). I felt that for a very first try, the
event was relatively successful in that people actually SHOWED UP. I
would have talked to you but I do not recall seeing you there. I
would also note that you didn't approach me, and I was painfully
obvious, pink shirt and pink hair. Also for the record, I am not THAT
young, nearly 30. My friends and I are all graduate students and we
did not feel "old" or "outcast" at all, which, despite my relative
youth, I often do at events that attract primarily early 20 somethings/
undergraduates. Obviously improvements can be made (I agree with you
on the time of day issue), but perhaps your expectations were too high
for a first try.

The poor service and shitty bar are part of the point of the event.
One of my friends said "so this is what straight bars are like?
Ick!" A poor reception at the venue is always a possibility with
these events.

Anyway, give some time for GQB to grow and I am confident that it will
improve over time.

Regards,
Danelle

Yeah I tend to come off as being a big jerk when I try to type my thoughts...oh wait it also happens when I talk...oh hell I am a bit of a trouble maker.
I can not help it as the words just come out and I have yet to learn how to temper them....also TWDs (typing while drunk) is never a good idea.
I think I did expect a lot more but am still glad I went as I do love the idea.
I tried to get a friend of mine to go but it didnt work out and I still showed up.
I ended up at Tradewinds and did cheerleading for GQB and all I talked to loved the idea also.
I did see you there but by the time I was ready to talk to you I didnt see anyone who looked like part of the group so I left.
That is why I made a suggestion of greeters who rounded up the lone wolfs like me.
I didnt mean to piss people off I was just spouting off what came to mind.
I will think of other places and other suggestions and keep telling people about GQB

Peace

David
