Dear all,

To familiarize myself with Gpyro, I wanted to reproduce the simulation from Huang & Rein’s paper https://doi.org/10.1071/WF16198
Due to convergence issues with Gpyro v08, I am using v07. Setting up the Simulation was straightforward and I was able to extract most of the values from the paper.

However, during the simulation, temperatures increase due to external radiation, but no combustion reactions with biomass conversion occur.

Could someone please take a quick look at the file and maybe has an idea why the reactions are not starting?

Best regards,
Lukas

Dear Lukas,

Have you tried running a 0D simulation with ramp temperature (similar to a TGA experiment) to check the reactions start at the right temperatures? If not you may want to do that. If the issue is there your values of the reaction kinetics might not be right.

Hope this helps,

Best,

Alexander

I agree that the best way to learn Gpyro is to start simple and grow complexity step by step. The simulations in that 2017 paper of ours on smouldering peat are not simple.

Lukas, do you have a copy of the Gpyro workbook? It starts with simple heat transfer and simple pyrolysis kinetics.

G.

Dear Guillermo and Alex,

Thank you very much for your comments and advice. I have the workbook and will approach the problem step by step.

Kind regards
Lukas
