In a continuation of last months review on Labels in Sportscode Pro, lets take a closer look at the Labels Tree and then see how we can use the Find Window to access further data.

productmay12-1.jpgThe Labels Tree window controls the pop up menu that is displayed when an instance is right clicked.

productmay12-2.jpgThe most common way to access the Labels Tree is by selecting the Label icon in the Timeline toolbar.

productmay12-3.jpgIn this Ice Hockey example, we are coding scoring chances, for and against.  Our ‘Text Labels’ (as described last month) allows us to provide descriptions to a particular action or event to indicate possible results that can occur from a scoring chance.

productmay12-4.jpgBy selecting the Column Button
we can add a “branch” to our Labels Tree.

In our new column we are going to add each Forward and Defense line that is on the ice during the time of the scoring chance.

                       productmay12-5.jpg

Once we have coded all scoring chances that occurred during a game we can now go through those instances and add information from our Label Tree by control clicking (or right clicking) on each instance.

Last month we used the Matrix to access this data, let’s take an introductory look at how to access data using the powerful Find Window.

productmay12-7.jpgThe Find Window provides the capacity to search for data in any open window or a folder on the hard drive containing Sportscode files.  Let’s search for all coded instances where my F1 line and my D1 where on the ice together during scoring chances.

As you can see, the search results contain several different instances where our variables are met (Scoring Chances + F1 + D1).  Now we can present or database these instances.

                 productmay12-8.jpg

For results aggregated over multiple games we can broaden the search parameters to include all timelines in a folder !

Case Study

I am Nicolas Basdedios and for 13 years I have been involved on the staff of the Argentina National Rugby Team, Los Pumas. A decade ago we used several video editing applications, until I discovered Sportscode. I am now on the Sportstec staff because I'm a fan of Sportscode and the tools of SportsCode Elite, in particular the Movie Organizer.

Many of you reading this article are users of Sportscode Elite so I shall briefly describe my experience  of Sportscode Elite at the High Performance Level that makes this product something different, amazing and essential before, during and after the competition.

At the highest level in Rugby, in the coaches box during the game we receive and capture 3 video feeds of the game from different angles. The teams video analyst is coding live and then analyses the work, which allows us to generate a lot of information. This information is important, but what is the best way to select and then generate small clips for the teams daily video session? The Movie Organizer is a fundamental tool for coaches so they can order the movies with ease and can synchronize the video images being projected on the screen with the message(s) that the coach wants to leave in the minds of the players.

The team lives together for 10 or 12  weeks per year. During tours or regional competitions, is essential that the Head Coach and his Assistants organize the week and the video sessions easily. With practice we were able to teach the coaches some tips so they can select the segments and edit their videos with two or three clicks. The coaches love this tool, really love it!!  because it's easy to use and has been designed to organize and edit. The coaches can change the order by dragging and dropping or the clips can be trimmed using the Edit window. If you are not using Movie Organizer or if you do not appreciate the importance of this tool, start now!

Soccer is a very dynamic game, where there are many time-outs and the ball is always moving. Live coding is not as simple as in the game of rugby. It is essential to the use of iCoda, an online coding function. Importing XML from different iPads during the game, improves the receipt of information and analysis of the players and the team performance. You can send information to the bench or show the players at halftime and thus be able to polish some details in order to win the game.

In Argentina´s Soccer, the elite teams are very even and the outcome of games can be decided by small details. The team that is attentive to the little things is the winner. A few Sundays ago, I was in the box of the technical staff for one of the best Argentine football teams and we were helping them do some analysis work for the players that we would show at halftime. They were really impressed.  The coach wanted to hug me when I finished the game. It was not just a hug for me but for all creators of Elite. This is a unique tool for live performance analysis that anybody can do with Elite and with online coding using Coda. At this level, attention to detail is the the difference between winning and loosing.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the message was lost.
For want of a message the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
