I am trying to import a .kmz file into GPS essentials. I think I read somewhere that this could be done. Can anyone give me a pointer on how to do this, or where to find more information on this?

Why do I want to do this? I want to be able to see parcel (property) lines, and am able to do this via Google Earth, then create a .kmz file. I usually import the .kmz file into my Garmin Oregon 550t, but am trying to figure out whether I could use GPS essentials for my needs instead.

Thank you!

Select Waypoints, then select "Import" from the options menu, then select the KML file from your SD card. Notice that KML support is limited at this time, MultiLine strings work, Polygons don't, so depending on what you create in Google Earth it may or may not work.

The next version of GPS Essentials will have better KML support, plus KMZ support, including custom icons, folders, polygons (no fill color, though...). Here's a screenshot of what is about to come:

Thanks Michael,

Just created a .kml file in Google Earth, and imported it as you suggested. GPS Essentials doesn't display on the map though - did I miss a step or is it just not working yet? When will the new version be out? Can I import .shp files (that would be great!)?

SHP files are not supported at this time.

After importing, there is a yellow banner telling you what has been created.

The new version is done when it's done :-) It's feature complete and I'm currently trying to bring it to a level where a beta test makes sense. I'll announce releases on facebook.com/GpsEssentials.

Select the polygon in your stream.
Open the three dot menu and choose View -> Style
