When I select the GPS Essentials icon I get a message at the top of the screen that reads "GPS is currently disabled"

How do I ENABLE it???

Also, when trying to cal the compass nothing moves unless I keep my finger on the screen.

Depending on your phone, something like system settings, location
services, or if you can pull down the notification shade, you might be
able to toggle GPS/location on/off there as well.
