This worked for me (see below).. I think I might have updated all apps afterwards. And when I opened GPS Essentials it said hey you're now be the tester and I had to click open.

Get beta versions of apps

Important: To get the beta version of an app, the app must already be installed on your device.

1. Open the Play Store .
2. At the top right, tap the profile icon.
3. Tap Manage apps & devices Installed.
4. Tap an app to open its detail page.
5. Under “Join the beta,” tap Join Join.

Tip: If you can’t find “Join the beta,” that means the developer doesn’t offer public betas for the app at this time.

I am not clear what you are seeing.

So...step by step

Is this Android?

Does the play store open ok?

Can you see your profile icon top right once the play store is open?

When you tap that, does a sub-window (not sure what to call that) open - your name/identity at the top and Manage apps & device a little further down?

For ease, here are the instructions again:

I made a bad assumption. I was trying to do this from my PC.

Second, on my A15, the G Play screen had a bunch of ads and 

hoo-rah blocking my next step. I was able to sweep it away and 

get to the Beta sign up.

Hi,

Okay I now have release 4.5.29 installed and tracking, thank you. Unfortunately however, the satellite view no longer works. Each time I try to use it the app crashes. I can get away without it by using a dashboard widget but that's not optimal for seeing their location.

My device: Samsung Tab A SM T585 running Android 8.1 - can't upgrade.

I followed instructions for joining Beta. 

Play Store reports "Joining Beta...Adding your account to the program. It may take a few minutes."

 It's been about 30 minutes, force stopped GPS Essentials, restarted, shows ver 4.5.28

How long should it take?

Auto updated to 4.5.29 about an hour after joining Beta. Tried it out briefly today - tracking and logging appear to be working normally - YAY -  satellites show up as expected - no crashes. Only "problem" I noticed is that when recording a track, on the ALL TRACKS screen, the current track that is recording, is at the top of the list but is not indicated as RECORDING. In earlier versions the current recording track was clearly indicated with a RECORDING designation.

I don't even see the satellite screen - the App crashes the moment I tap the icon or menu.
