Hi,

GPS accuracy depends on many things and changes over time. It can range from below 2m to 20m or more. There is an accuracy widget for the dashboard that shows the current value.

And what about vertical accuracy? I heard GPS is less accurate when it comes to altitude, is that correct? Being at the seaside on the beach, GE sometimes showed -14m, sometimes 1-2m and sometimes 10 meters above sea level. Also when I borrowed my friends Galaxy S3 mini, GE failed to record a track. It started but then, after a few minutes stopped and couldnt get a fix. On my Sony Xperia P everything works fine. Any idea why?
Cheers!

You are right that vertical accuracy is usually less compared to horizontal accuracy. The accuracy widget in GPS Essentials shows horizontal accuracy and makes no statement about vertical accuracy.

Did you see any satellites on the S3 mini? The first thing to check is satellite view. Another reason could be that the device is running on low battery.

Yes, I saw about 18 satellites but non of them fixed. Also the battery was full. Could it be a memory related issue? Or maybe power saving mode caused it? On Xperia, Stamina mode doesn't cause any problems, maybe it is some kind of Galaxy S3 mini issue?

Maybe the SNR was too bad, different devices have different antennas.
