If you want to navigate, you need to create a route an then start the route. (A route will then be stored on your device and you can reuse it). To create a route, you need (at least) a target waypoint. You can import a waypoint or select it on a map.
What you need to do is perform a search which also yields a waypoint: Open a map, tap on search and enter the address. (The search will run on the visible area, so make sure you zoom and pan first). This will show the "hit" on the map (there might be multiple hits for a single address). Then you can convert one or more of the hits into waypoints.
If the address you are searching is a contact in your address book, you can install the contacts plugin, then you can select an entry in the address book and start the search.
