For some reason KML files I have sent to my PC are showing in Goole Earth when I upload them with a broken path.
The file is set-up to record points at the fastest interval...this is only recently occurring.  It has been working fine for some time.
When I zoom out the entire path shows up clearly.  Any ideas?

P.S. This seems to only occur when I export a KML file saved in a GOOGLE Earth format, it does not seem to occur when I export a KML file in the Google Maps format.  The Google Maps KML file does not have speed information nor does it have the slider at the top of the Google display that lets you move through your tracks to determine time.  Am I doing something wrong here?

An image of the Google Display for you.  This is a KML file saved as a Google Earth format...speed and height data are there however the red track disappears as I zoom in...then fills in as I zoom out (but it is too far out once filled in to see details).

Files saved as Google Maps do not contain speed data but do show up as complete tracks when zoomed in or out.
A recent development.

Hmm, I can imagine what happened. I added altitude data to the track. Now some parts of the track are below ground and will not render. I will have to add an export option for 2D/3D. The KML/Google Maps export is always 2D and should work.

Some of my altitude tracks work fine....this seems to be a recent development. In addition...just thinking out loud here....why would zooming out of the image allow those tracks below ground level to reappear? Just a question. Thank you for your reply. I like the altitude data since approx pavement heights can be relevant at an airport. How accurate do you think the heights are?

Still love using the program. I use it nightly to track/record my airfield inspections.

Thank you again. Nice work.

In KML, there are different "altitude modes". If you don't have altitude data, you can set the mode to "clamp to ground". The actual altitude will then be ground level, as known by the rendering application (e.g. Google Earth). This was the mode GPS Essentials used initially. When I added altitude data to KML, I switched to MSL mode. Now, due to inaccuracies in the altitude data that is coming from the GPS and also inaccuracies in the altitude data in Google Earth, sometimes Google Earth thinks you are below the ground and will not render this part of the track.

I will add the 2D/3D switch.

If you right click on the uploaded track in Google Earth and choose 'Properties' and click on the tab 'Altitudes', so are the default choice 'Absolute', and the track sometimes go under the surface and disappear. But if you change to  'Clamped to ground' your track being visible all the way.

So i wonder if there really are any need for a 2D/3D-swith? The 3D data seems to always be 2D in Google Map and in Google Earth can you fix it under property....

That's cool, I didn't know you can adjust this in Google Earth.

Thanks for finding this out!

I think I am having the same problem with an exported KML track to GE but the solution of checkng "extend to the ground" in the Altitude tab of GE makes no difference. Basically I can see the red track in all levels until about 1/2 way zoomed in and then segments rapidly disappear with the next couple tics on the zoom.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
