I recently got a new phone.  I had 3 years of waypoints in my old phone on the 3.2 version.  I transferred the app to my SD card and then put the SD card in my new phone.  I downloaded the latest version of GPS essentials on to my new phone and when I opened it, it is empty.  No waypoints.  So I put the SD card back in my old phone and uploaded the new version onto it, thinking that all the waypoints would be sync into it, and when I opened it, It was empty.  Now I can't find my waypoints at all.... HELP!   thanks

G4 has a new database format. When you first start the new version, it should open a dialog to import the old database. You can trigger this manually at any later time:

- Open GPS Essentials,
- tap on Streams,
- tap on the plus in the action bar,
- swipe to Import,
- tap on Browse,
- tap on "com.mictale.gpsessentials" and then on "databases" and
- select "Waypoints" (this is the old database file).
- Back in the import dialog, tap on Start.

Hey thanks Michael.  Did what you said and it worked on my old phone and everything was imported to the new version 4.0.  However, I downloaded the App on my new Galaxy s5 and did the same thing and my waypoints are empty... I thought everything was linked to my account and it shouldn't make a difference which phone.   How do I move everything from my old phone to my new phone?       Thanks,    Brian

Data will not synchronize between devices automatically. You can copy everything under com.mictale.gpsessentials on your SD card to another device to duplicate the data at a certain point in time. If you want to synchronize a specific stream, you can share it on mapfinity.com: Choose "Account" and register, wait for the registration email and click the confirmation link. Then select properties in stream view and choose "Private" under Access. Register on a second device using the same email address and then tap on synchronize in All Streams.

Thanks for the tips Michael, but I tried everything and cannot seem to figure out how to copy my data/waypoints.   I guess I need to find a way to copy everything to my SD card or send it to the SD card.  I tried highlighting all the waypoints, but when I do, it doesn't give me an option to export or copy.  Tried the export, but that only exports one waypoint at a time....   When I think I sent waypoints to my SD card, I check the SD and it has no data or waypoints.  Don't know what else to do...

You need another app to copy the whole database, or mount your SD card to a desktop computer and copy the files there. Sorry did not mention this detail.

Ok thanks.  Any recommendations on an application that I could use to do that?  I would just mount the SD card to my computer,  and download the database off my phone storage to my computer,  but the problem still exist that I can't transfer the data/waypoints to my SD card in the first place.

If you're using a desktop computer you don't need an additional app. Just copy everything under com.mictale.gpsessentials (recursively, i.e. include all sub-folders) to a place on your desktop computer, mount the target device and copy the files from the desktop computer there.

Has there been any thought to utilizing Google Drive or Dropbox to keep files/databases in sync across devices?

Open GPS Essentials,
- tap on Streams,
- tap on the plus in the action bar,
- swipe to Import,
- tap on Browse,
- tap on "com.mictale.gpsessentials" and then on "databases" and
- select "Waypoints" (this is the old database file).
- Back in the import dialog, tap on Start.

When you get to the 6th step, and tap on databases, Is GPSE looking for a special filename? No matter what I put in that folder, GPSE says the folder is empty.
