Ok, I reckon this may be an issue with my GPS, but I'll post here a try anyway.
I was driving two days ago, and suddenly Waze went into "No GPS Signal mode". I didn't take particular notice at the moment, but as of now I am still unable to get a fix. GPS essentials still shows a bunch of satellite which should be in sight here (I guess it's taking my location from the data connection?) but none of them seems to be visible and there is obviously no fix.
Any idea what else should I be checking other than rebooting the phone, removing and re-inserting the SIM, the battery, etc... prior to bringing it to the customer care which most likely will keep the phone for a couple of weeks?

I had an issue with my old Nexus S where only a factory reset brought the satellites back so this is something you might want to try. I guess my issue was related to an update of Google Maps that somehow bricked the entire GPS and the factory reset rolled back both Google Maps and Google Play Services which both seem to play a role.

If this does not help, it is most probably a hardware issue.
