Hi.

I use GPS Essentials since a few years ago.
I've always imported .gpx files using the standard funcionality.

Today I was trying to import a file with just 3 waypoints and am getting the error:

"Cannot determine the document's character set, might be a missing XML document declaration"
and nothing is imported (see screenshot).

I compared the .gpx with other similar files I have and everything seems ok.
Could this be a problem with the current software version? I have version 4.4.22 .

Did someone have a similar problem recently?

Thanks
Frederico

It looks like the file you are trying to import is not valid. Try to open it in a text editor and check that it has an XML declaration on the top of the file.

The first line of the file should look somewhat like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>

If not, add this line and try again.

Thanks for your help, Michael.

I checked the file and the first line was:
<?xml version="1.0" standalone="yes"?>

I replaced it by your suggestion and the file was imported without problems.

Just FYI, I originally had a .kml exported from google maps. Converted it to .gpx on kml2gpx.com.
The only thing new for me here is the generation of .kml from google maps. I normally generate it from google earth.

Regards and thanks again
Frederico

Then your file was "kind of" valid, but GPS Essentials needed a specific encoding because the automatic detection failed for some reason.

BTW, GPS Essentials can read KML/KMZ right away, any reason for the conversion to GPX?

Not really. Perhaps just because I got used to doing it like that.
Is the kml import possible since a long time ago?

Thanks
Frederico

It is there for some time, but AFAIR GPX was first.
