I just had a project pushed onto me and I need some quick start help.   In 26 hours I am meeting with a group that wants to put a disc golf course on our campus and I need to plot the points of the course onto a map.  Basically there will be 19 holes and 3-4 points per hole.   There will be 1-2 starting points per hole (amateur and professional) and then there will be 1-2 baskets.

I need to use GPS Essential to tag each of these spots so I can then bring it back to the office and put the holes on a site plan map and possibly Google Earth.

Any input on how to quickly get up to speed on using GPS Essentials would be greatly appreciated.  I just installed it today.

There is a PDF user guide on his site. Not really a Quick Start but helpful nonetheless.

One tip I'd offer is to be patient when setting points. Let the GPS location stabilize on the phone for 30 secs or so before setting your markers.  Have the GPSE dashboard display the Lat/Lon/Alt and wait for them to have settled.

In addition to the tip Phil gave, I'll add that some cell phone GPS have poor accuracy even under ideal conditions (my very cheap LG is one). To compensate I export the data to Google Earth and use the satellite imagery to adjust the location of the points to be within a few feet.

You should probably spend an hour or two upfront, create a few waypoints and then try to export them.

What you try to do sound quite easy: You create a new stream (or use Waypoints), open it, tap on "+" and swipe to WAYPOINT, then wait until delta is small enough, then tap Create to create a waypoint. (Optionally add some text and choose an icon). If it is sunny you might run into issues on devices with cheap displays, be prepared.

Every stream exports into a single file, if you want to have all holes in a single file then create a single stream -- or create a stream per hole to have them separate.

Google Earth may not be any more accurate than your phone GPS. Their satellite imagery is known to be a bit off. Usually it just a few feet, but in some cases it can be quite a bit more--there are actually roads that break apart, shift some distance, and then continue, just because the map didn't align properly.

Seems getting accurate, verifiable coordinates is a bit of a craspshoot.

Thank you everyone!  I am going to go out this morning and test it out after reading the manual last night.  I will report back!
