How can I change waypoint styles and line weight and colour in a stream?
I do botanical species work. I usually import polylines for search boundaries and waypoints as known (or target) species locations. I then record my search track and record waypoints for species found on site. Therefore I need to differentiate between search bounds and tracks and known and found waypoints. To complicate things I am colour blind so that some line colors work, others don't. Additionally the maps are usually quite full with various waypoints and the pin icon interferes with viewing the map. A dot, circle or square would suit me better.

Hi,

You can change the style using the style menu. To change the color of a specific line, select the polyline in the category dropdown (in the action bar), then select View/Style from the menu and change the line color and width.

You can also import custom icons using a KMZ file. E.g. you can create some icons in Google Earth and then export as a KMZ and import into GPS Essentials.

I can't find the style menu location to change my line weights. Probably right in front of my face but I cannot find it.

Will changing the style of one track leave the style line width as saved for all future lines and tracks?  I want a 4 stroke width on lines with a red color but the default keeps placing an 8 stroke width to my lines with a red color.
I would like to be able to change these parameters prior to starting a track but so far I only seem to be able to change them once a track has started.  Still my issue probably as I work to better understand your program.

I did finally determine how to change the width of lines after finding the style menu in the view menu once I had opened a node (think that is the correct terminology).

Thanks!

Dave. I found it: Select a stream you want to change the line style in. top left bar there should be 'Line Features'  press that and a pop up menu will show features in the stream. Select the polyline you want to change. there should then be a list of nodes below and a map of the selected line features above. press the 3 little dots top right bar then 'view' then 'style'. It is a little hard to navigate but given the complexity of the program...

Thanks Michael. I can now change the line style in a stream. How do I change the waypoint style? If I select my point feature layer, 'view/style' just gives me the option to change a line style.
I did find it previously but I can't find it again. I have imported Google KML's previously and it did work as you say. However, I have created waypoints within GPSE that I would like to change.
Thanks for a great program.

The only way to get custom icons into GPS Essentials is when they are part of a KMZ file. So you have to create one (e.g. in Google Earth), add icons and then import the file into GPS Essentials. The icons will then be selectable in your waypoints.

Not looking for custom icons...although thanks may try that...looking to set a default track line width to 4 instead of the 8 it is now and set a default height of ground level.
