What does the accuracy estimate really mean?

Hi, Michael. GPS Essentials is a terrific app, thanks for developing it! Do you know the origin of the accuracy estimate that we see in the dashboard? I know that the Google API says that there is a 68% probability that the true location is within a circle with that radius, but I have seen reference to other meanings of GPS accuracy such as circular error probable. Do you use getAccuracy() for the accuracy value? Does it come from the hardware specifically? Any thoughts you have would be helpful!

Yes, I'm using getAccuracy(). I think it is derived from the HDOP values that the GPS receiver reports. This value depends on the signal quality and the constellation and number of satellites used for the fix.
