The latest claims come from Ubergizmo, which also claims there’s a new 64GB iPod touch in the works.
It’s a plausible rumour, since capacity bumps are a necessity as the touch gets older, while GPS would effectively make the finger-friendly iPod the sexiest satnav in the world, just itching for TomTom and others to pile their software on board.
And since satnav software doesn’t come cheap, it’d let Apple take a decent slice of revenue the moment it went on sale through the App Store.
We already know TomTom has a version of its software development for the iPhone and iPod touch, but until Apple updates the GPS capabilities of the iPhone to provide cardinal data (that’s the exact direction the handset’s facing), it can’t provide accurate directions from stand-still.
