Hi,
I have done everything the youtube link says to do and I have put the
map files in the correct location. I still have no idea how to view
maps offline (by offline, I mean I have no cell reception or internet
reception). I am using Ordnance Survey Explorer Maps (UK) as my 'Map
source' and Mobile Trail Explorer in 'Atlas settings'. When I am in
signal, the map and GPS work very well (yes, the new update has sorted
the small grid error (thank you), but when signal goes, I'm stuck.
Help!

Hi Dave,

Did you switch the map to offline map (bottom left map button) then select os map from another button on the bottom right?

I did, yes. Let me just ask a couple of yes/no questions so I'm clear
in my own head what to do.

1. Do I need GPS reception in order to view offline maps?

2. Can I take a grid reference from an offline map if I have no gps
signal?

3. Can I browse through my different maps at leisure while at home,
without either GPS or Mobile Network reception signal, and therefore
pre-plan my trek?

Thanks for the prompt reply.

You do not need GPS reception to view the offline maps.

2. Can I take a grid reference from an offline map if I have no gps
signal?

You can take a grid reference from GPS mode when no GPS signal but the app will use the last known location, which could be in accurate but you can check the accuracy. The app also used network location when gps turn off.

3. Can I browse through my different maps at leisure while at home,
without either GPS or Mobile Network reception signal, and therefore

Yes, you can, you will need to turn the location lock so you can scroll the map to do this you need to press on the icon on the bottom left (above the offline map button).

If you have any other questions please feel free to let me know.

Still no joy. This is what I have done and my results. Tell me what is
going wrong.

I have the latest full version of the app. I have the latest version
of MOBAC and I am using a HTC Desire.
I am in the UK, near London.

I open MOBAC and select an area. I am using OS Explorer Maps in the
map source and Mobile Trail Explorer in Atlas settings. I name and add
the selection then create the atlas. The area I have selected is in
Scotland. I install the maps to my Desire SD Card under tiles/UKOSMAP
(all done as per the youtube video and following all instructions
given so far by your good self). I then open GPS Grid Reference and it
shows a list - get coordinate from map, GPS, Compass, search address
for spatial information, and Manage Waypoints. I press GPS. I press
the bottom left icon to use offline maps. I press the location lock so
it is off. I press the Map Mode icon and select UK OS map. The screen
stays grey and no map comes up.I can see the arrow at my last location
and I try to scroll up to Scotland. I have no joy as there are no
reference points for me to align myself onto the small area I selected
for my trail.

I'm perplexed, confused and a little annoyed. Either I'm doing
something wrong (what?) or the application isn't doing what it says it
does.

All I want to do is be able to browse various maps at different scales
from the comfort of my living room, on my phone before setting off on
a trek.

Again, help!

Çan you send me a screen shot of the full directory where you put the tiles in from your PC?

Did you select "Multimap UK OS map" map source from MOBAC?

While waiting, I did the same but with Multimap UK OS map source and
the same thing - no offline map!

The Multimap UK OS map should work. Please try remove all the tiles from UKOSMAP folder then paste the Multimap UK OS map tiles in.

I'll do that again, and if it doesn't work, I'm going to have to
uninstall it. Should the map pop up straight away when I select
UKOSMAP from the menu?

Yes the map should come up straight away when loading up from SD card.
Can you check if the tiles are just a png image file?

I'll check. Should they be?

It should be .png

I've checked and they are.

Ok, best to remove the existing tiles first then try to download the tiles and paste them in again.
Do you have a grid reference of the location that you are trying to load the tiles for? I will try to download them and send them over see if they work.

I've removed and repasted several times. The place I'm after is
Kirkcudbright in Scotland. I've also tried it with other areas. The
grid of Kirkcudbright is NX 685 510.

Okay, I've figured it out. First and foremost, thank you, Luck , for
your time, effort and patience over this. I'm sure I've been a royal
pain in the a**.

The mistake I was making, was that I was only selecting zoom levels
12, 13, 14, 15, 16. Because of that, I had no large scale reference
map to zoom in from so was essentially searching for a needle in a
haystack. If anybody else has the problem I had, all you have to do is
ensure you select the low zoom levels (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 etc as
well as the others (just select ALL levels!)) in MOBAC. Then, when you
open your app on the phone, ensure you are zoomed out fully, then just
zoom in steadily. The image will only then update and show the part of
the country you have available on your SD Card and you can pan and
zoom within that new image.

Easy when you know how!!!!

I'm glad we got it sorted. I will put a note on the video too.
