I find that, with the new version 3.02, my user sentence m. <[L]>< [D],>
[PO] is now being rendered with a capital M. instead of m. I note that
there is an option Capitalize First Letter and, if I uncheck that, the
m. shows correctly.

My problem is that I have over 100 chapters, each using the item in a
List of People at the beginning of the chapter. Is there a way I can
change the whole lot without having to navigate my way through to the
relevant screen on each chapter?

Chris,

Sorry, no.

I thought the addition of the property would not change existing output because the prior behavior was to capitalize the first letter. So, adding the option should have provided the ability to turn off that behavior but should not have changed the results without you changing the property. Your question makes me question if that is true.

I’ve gone over prior versions of the code, and it’s hard to determine the prior behavior. The challenge is, the prior release of GP was a year ago, and a lot has changed since then. Most of the LoP implementation is shared with GedSite, including the sentence template processing.

I hate to leave you with a hundred changes to make, but there’s no short cut. Sorry!

John,

Is the data file backwards compatible, so that I could revert to v3.01? That version did everything I need.

I don’t know. I do not investigate to determine whether a gpfile can be read by an older version of GP. I check that an older gpfile can be read by a newer version of GP.

Staying with v3.01 is not a good idea. Changing 100+ Chapter items will take some time, maybe an hour? Meanwhile, v3.02 has 50+ changes, and that includes about 20 fixes. There were probably more fixes that were not announced because between GP v3.01 and v3.02 there were 6 releases of GedSite, all with various enhancements, changes, and fixes, and a lot of the components are shared between GP and GS. If you discover your book is affected by an issue, you’ll be forced to update. There will be future enhancements and fixes. Sticking with an old version will probably only delay making the changes.

Thanks John. Actually rather less than an hour as I speeded up as I went. Obviously sound advice to keep up to date with new versions.
