Happy Friday, GoWProNJ members,

Here's the list of bills already introduced for the 2012 - 2013 legislative session which include the words internet or website in their title.  Perhaps we should review them all, split them up among our NJ members, and take positions / work with the sponsors so that we have input on the front end.

I don't know if you're aware, but NAGW issued a draft paper on SOPA / PIPA for its members to review.  If you're a NAGW member and received the mailing, please send your comments over the weekend.  We're voting on a final draft Monday morning and I'm the one who will be doing edits over the weekend!

Be safe and may you have minimal issues with the coming snowstorm!

See you all Friday, February 3, I hope!

Carol

On NAGW's draft paper:  I can send once it's formally adopted, hopefully this week.  We sent to members for input into the final document before adoption.

I'd like to thank everyone who was able to join us for our first GoWProNJ meeting of 2012 and to give a special shout-out to Thor Carlson for a terrific presentation on his Google Transit project. Well done, Thor. Many thanks to our gracious hosts in Willingboro who provided a wonderful meeting facility and brought us breakfast, to boot!

For those who raised their hands to do a bit of follow-up work on various NJ 2012-13 bills, please be sure to contact bill sponsors and let them know that the organization is taking an active interest in legislation that potentially impacts government websites, our responsibilities and budgets.

We get together next on Friday, April 13 (date moved to second Friday of the month because of Good Friday), in Montclair -- I look forward to Bob Kelly's presentation on mapping. An exact meeting location will be provided once I've determined which facility will be available to us.

Thank you again for a great meeting and terrific input from all.

All the best,

Katya

Thank you for the sharing of information!

I have two concerns that you may be able to assist me with:

1- I received the assignments of legislature and one packet is: Exempts municipal clerks from penalties for Open Public records Act violations uder certain circumstances.

I do not see that on the list.  could you share with me where it is located on the handout list?  I have the packet, I simply wanted to locate that assignment on the list to share with my Director.

2- I explained to the Mayor that our group are Government Web employees.  She seems to think that Bob is an IT person.  Please reply... thanks!

Thank you,
Denice A. Waite

Though can't speak for all, most I assume, are 'IT People'. As for me, I am the webmaster for the internet and intranet of my employer, but I have additional responsibilities under my official title of Sr. DP Systems Programmer.

The 2nd concern is regardin IT employees- being a part of the web group. Our Mayor wants our IT employee to attend - I explained I do not think he has the same needs- please reply. Thanks

Hi Denice,

There were a couple of pieces of legislation that came to me after the
list was put together. In fact, I have two more in my email this
morning.

RE: Bob. He does maintain all the systems for the municipality, but he
also does all the web and social media. Like most of us, he wears
multiple hats.

Thanks so much... our IT person is strictly IT... nothing at  all to do with the web... so my director and I were wondering... thanks much...

I understand... however IT and Web are so totally different... most IT people will elt you know they are strictly IT... My daughter is IT for DEA and she worked for the FBI IT... at one point ... and she lets me know immediately, Mother I am not into web sites... LOL... however, thanks but our director and I were trying to discern if IT should attend the Web meetings in the future...

Web falls under IT unless the "web representative" is strictly data entry for a content management system.
Web Design, Web Management, web anything is Information Technology.
