Hello Everyone.

There is an Accessibility Meetup on Monday, March 21, at 8 PM on U.S. Web Accessibility Laws in 2022. It will be presented by Lainey Feingold. Cost is FREE. Signup at: https://www.meetup.com/wordpress-accessibility-meetup-group/events/bkbcqsydcfbcc/

These accessibility meetups have been very informative and worth the time to attend.

Don't forget, our next meeting is March 17. Hope to see you there!

Hope this email finds you well. Is there a free tool that you all use to test the accessibility of a page/site?

Thank You.

Hi Swetal! :)

While ideally you'd still do some manual testing, automated testing can capture a lot of errors. :) We happen to have a Siteimprove subscription, but AXE from Deque is the most highly regarded tool I'm aware of - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/axe-devtools-web-accessib/lhdoppojpmngadmnindnejefpokejbdd?hl=en-US

Hi Swetal.

I recommend WAVE. (Web accessibility evaluation tool)  The browser extension is easy and convenient to use.

I use AXE in addition to WAVE. A few more steps are needed to evaluate a page with AXE.

I run both tools when checking a page. I run WAVE first in Firefox and fix any errors, then running AXE in Chrome.
One process may pick up an error that the other tool misses.

Note: Never rely on an overlay, no matter what the selling company may tell you. They often make it more difficult for a person who relies on assistive technology. Overlays are not a solution to incorrect coding. It’s like trying to add the eggs after you bake the cake.

Kindest regards,
Jean
