TOPIC: GoWProNJ’s own Thor Carlson will provide a presentation on
Google Transit on Google Maps. Thor is currently working on a Google
Transit project for Sussex County.
Transit on Google Maps is a public transportation planning tool that
combines the latest agency data with the power of Google Maps. It
integrates transit stop, route, schedule, and fare information to make
trip planning quick and easy for everyone.
Participation can benefit your agency by:
• Raising awareness of public transportation to attract new riders
• Helping seasoned riders discover new routes to maximize your
infrastructure investment
• Linking to your agency website to increase rider awareness
• Connecting neighboring agencies' data to improve inter-agency
connectivity
• Decreasing traffic congestion and environmental effects while
increasing mobility
• Providing trip planning on both desktop and mobile devices
• Doing it all for free (who can beat free?) -- all you have to do is
share your data

OTHER DISCUSSION ITEMS:

A. NJ Legislature bills introduced for the 2012-13 legislative
session. Carol Spencer (Morris County) did the legwork for us by
identifying those bills that include the words “Internet” or “website”
in their title. Per Carol’s suggestion, we will review the bills and
divide them among the NJ members with the view for the group to take
positions and work with bill sponsors so that GoWProNJ’s input is
taken into account at the earliest possible stages.

B. GoWProNJ sessions for the 2012 GMIS conference: Our organization
should have a presence at this conference. We’ll discuss ideas for
conference sessions.

C. Building GoWProNJ membership. We have a great group of web
professionals who provide terrific input that helps us all do our jobs
a little bit better while working toward affecting positive change in
the government arena. Let’s grow the group so that we have that many
more great minds working together. A brief discussion on recruitment
and PR possibilities.
